Popular Post Cal
Weekend agenda, hmm... yesterday I picked up a couple new rocking chairs for the front porch. Will likely spend a good bit of today prepping them for paint. The wife says that she is enjoying all this painting - I am enjoying her enjoying it! Have some additional red trim to do, then I can at least get the porch swings out to the porch and out of the shop. Got a few pieces and parts and chains in a vat doing some electrolysis. The chain is going very slow for whatever reason. Perhaps the solution is to weak? I have a pound of baking soda in the drum which is about what I used previously. I may add a bit more to see if it helps speed the process along. Yard work. Got the lawn mowed yesterday and then a pretty good rain came through. I would like to get some fertilizer and perhaps some ant food down before it rains again, so likely be doing that today also. Popular Post Larry Buskirk
@Cal, Try using washing soda. It works better than baking soda. HARO50, FlGatorwood, lew and 2 others 3
FlGatorwood
I have seen where you can use a couple of cut up baker potatoes for electrolysis. I have seen Shopsmith tubes restored that way. Well, I broke the bandsaw blade late yesterday. So, I had to order a couple more. Dang things are now $30 bucks each. Will be shopping on eBay. If I am going to be that careless, I need to stock up. So, it will be decorating graves of family veterans and cutting up this down palm tree. Sorry, folks you will have to wait for me to finish my thread on the bandsaw box. I don't understand what I did to turn on and off this double spacing. Please be safe out there. Keep those digits and spaces. lew, Gunny, Cal and 1 other
Larry Buskirk
@FlGatorwood, Steve, There are some good buys on bandsaw blades on the bay! The double spacing is caused by the emoji... Larry Buskirk
Well I'll be darned ... It held off raining long enough to get about 2 acres mowed, and the tomatoes planted. No sooner got the last tomato planted and here came the lasted about 1/2 Hr. with 1/2" of rain. We are now under a tornado and flash flood warning until 9:00 PM. About 12 miles west of me it must have really came down, reports of some streets under 8" water. Suns shining again here now. Popular Post Gene Howe
@FlGatorwood, try Suffolk Machinery for blades. I've had good luck with them and, believe it or not, off the shelf Olsens give good service. HD stocks them. Whether they have the 72" is another matter. Kinda hit and miss, there. I have been using Timberwolk blades made by them for a number of years. Have no complaints, stay sharp a long time and I abuse them. Popular Post Gunny
A small project to put together now that all the parts are painted. Installed four 9 watt LED downlights across my front porch. Wired up a motion sensor and mounted a box to the wall where the old light used to be. Had to make a insert for the brick, that proved fun nothing was square. Used my 12 disc sander to make the correct angle so it sat flush with the bricks. In the end a win, works well looks pretty good to me. Have a piece of vinyl trim to replace that slides under gutter. Old one was peeling. Have to get a straight 1x4 to set my bending jig up and have a nice square edge. Do that tomorrow. Popular Post Gunny
Old stove died after 20 years of service. Not bad considering I did not buy a top of the line electric oven. Went out to Brandsmart and after going down a list of stoves I found and looked at finally found one they had IN STOCK, not eternal backorder. Have no idea why you would display something to sell if you a) don't have one other than the demo or b) have no idea WHEN you might get one. Stove is kinda a must have item ya know? Unless you enjoy your spouse being in bad mood about it and never cooking again. For all our modern tech after the guy tells me yes we have it he hands me a piece of paper to tell me take this to the cashier. Really? A place that sells modern laptops and software and all that and we are in the stone age for checking out? Whatever, I checkout and then the fun begins. Had to wait in a long line of cars and a few trucks to get item loaded. They don't pull anything ahead of time and stage it. You wait in line and when you get to the door THEN they go and find it. Slow, very inefficient but hey what do I know right? I passed the time watching some idiot wonder why a 72 inch TV doesn't fit into the back of a Kia Forte. Get the thing home and as always the spot on the back of old stove that was recessed to allow for the plug is lower and in different spot on new stove. Here is where planning pays off. I had installed a surface mount box outlet for the stove. Planned on this being a problem so made it easy to move almost to floor if needed. Turned power off and removed 3 mounting screws (no wiring) and installed in new position. Only thing I had left was to level the stove, Bam we are back in business. Got one of these new smooth top ones. Wife likes it, and now I can have my lunch. lew, Cal, HARO50 and 3 others 2

HARO50
Got an e-mail from a friend last night. his neighbor is remodeling the house and ripping out all the cherrywood flooring. Could I use any? HECK YES!!! Got a pickup load this afternoon... it's a cherry FINISH! But still good hardwood, looks like Chinese mahogany. (? ) Spent most of the day pulling all the #%$^* staples, but I think it will make a very serviceable workbench for the shop. May go back for another load tomorrow. John Fred W.
