Larry Buskirk
I'll have to see if I can find the article where a Dr. stated that viruses do not become herd immune. She stated it has never happened with any other virus, and will not happen with this one. Link to comment
HandyDan
They are not sure how long the immunity lasts after having it. Evidence is showing it may be as little as four months. Link to comment

Evidence is showing it may be as little as four months. Depends on how the virus mutates . You get immunity from a particular strain of flu which is expected to be prevalent with a flu shot and that lasts a year. Right now they do not know what mutations this virus will have nor IMHO do they know how long that will last. So lots of unknowns when you talk about any virus. Link to comment
Larry Buskirk
I may be wrong but it seems to me it's more like a tolerance too more than immunity that gets developed. Link to comment
Gene Howe
We took a jump. 1091 new cases in AZ. 6 new ones in our county. 179 in the county we're moving to. No changes in the zip code in which our new place is located. As usual, the Phoenix area has the most. Another reason to stay outta Phoenix. We're still at around 12% positive tests. I think the %age needs to be @ 2% to fully reopen schools. Of course, each district can do as it deems. The 2% is a Health Dept. recommendation. Some areas have allowed parents to make a choice. The teachers have no choice...other than to resign, I guess. Link to comment

Al B
MA is reporting .9 % positive testing. Just wondering what will happen now that students are pouring in to the colleges from everywhere. Most public schools are opting to open with remote classes. The state is supposed to insure that every student who can't afford it, has the necessary pads. Buses are delivering school lunches to homes in our town. Link to comment
Gene Howe
836 new cases in AZ. 9 in our county. 16,635 tests statewide with 11.3% positive. Heard that a bunch of those positive tests, when re tested, came back negative. So, who knows the actual number. Link to comment
FlGatorwood
Gene, that has been a problem for some time. In addition to insufficient testing of the population, the accuracy has been a question since day one. This variety of Covid has not been tested and studied to see what it does, how long it will be around, how it reacts to various conditions. We now have folks getting it for a second time within 4 months, so now we are learning that if you have it once, you do not have a long term immunity. I fear that we are also rushing vaccines that have not been thoroughly tested. To me, to wipe this out, test everyone, study this from various academics and allow them to compare notes so that the information can be exchanged then get a vaccine that fights all the knowns. There will be unknowns for many years if not forever. I think of measles, polio, smallpox and various illnesses we have faced in the past and it was not competitive to see who could rush it forward first to make the bucks. It was about the welfare of the population as well as their own lives. That's that attitude needed now. It's not about winning or loosing, but finding the head of the snake and remove it. I had a boss that used to say, we know the snake and where it lives. Remove its head today. If I remember correctly 900 children have now tested positive for Covid 19 since school has opened. But, I don't remember where that was. We have a friend who was exposed to the Covid 19 and she tested positive. Four days later, she took another test and she tested negative. So, yes, there needs to be more studies to find and root out this virus. Link to comment
Gene Howe
I check 3 sites that report new cases in AZ. The AZ dept. Of Health site and two others that purportedly get their info from the CDC. They often vary, sometimes wildly. Today is one of those times. The AZ Dept. of Health has new cases at 836. One of the CDC info sites is at 1578 and, the other one is at 752. Who ever said " I saw it on the net. It must true. " is living in a fantasy world. Link to comment

Gene Howe
Today, it seems that the CDC info sites and the ADHS site are in closer agreement Re: AZ numbers. ADHS reports 250 new cases, wth 3 in our county. The other sites are reporting lower numbers for the state and "0" new ones for our county. The ADHS reports only 8% positive tests. I think I'll just stick with the ADHS numbers going forward. Link to comment
