Popular Post aaronc
Did this several years ago. Scrimshaw compass rose and sperm whale on moose palm. Sand down to a decent surface,...little steel wool doesn't hurt...a little waxing with johnson paste wax or other wax for seal( which I didn't do here,...that's why it looks a bit "muddy" but I was after an older vintage look) then sketch your image and use a scribe or bit of some kind to "scratch" your image,...then add india ink or whatever type of substance you want to darken your lines. Moose antler is HARD. .I cheated a bit here and did some of the cutting with a micro motor foredom tool. All my powder horn or bone scrim is done all by hand with some scribes out of a tool and die shop in Illinois. Gene Howe
Aaron, although your medium isn't wood, I moved your excellent post to Wood Carving as that seems more descriptive of the work than the catch all of General Woodworking. Maybe @John Morris can create a section simply labeled "Carving". aaronc, FlGatorwood and Cal 2

Actually Aaron originally posted this in Free For All, I moved it to General Wood Then Gene moved it to Carving, and I think Gene made the right decision, it's is definitely a great carving! I just didn't want to see this masterpiece lost in the Free For All. aaronc, Cal, Gunny and 1 other 3

Gerald
All this time I thought this was Easy Company and @John Morris was Sgt Rock. Now see if anyone is old enough to remember that. Born in 66, childhood was in the 70's and teens in the 80's, what time stamp is that reference too Gerald, I don't even know if re-runs were on for my generation. Gerald
Easy Company was in a comic book in the 50’s and 60’s. Sgt Rock was the central figure.
