It is a work in progress, but if you view the very bottom of our website, you'll see a big footer block with convenient links and soon there will be more items of convenience as well for you to use. The last footer block we had put a strain on the community, and it slowed down the viewers browsing experience, this footer is not a third party app like the last one is, this footer is part of our core software now, and will not strain assets. Enjoy! A Patriot Woodwiki Milestone Last week I entered in the last Conifer tree in our softwoods category at The Patriot Woodwiki. The Pacific Yew. Wiki | Pacific Yew THEPATRIOTWOODWIKI.ORG Wiki Please see my announcement of this wonderful event! I know I know, it's just a wiki, but boy was it a lot of work! The conifers category consisted of 41 trees, and a whole lot of scanning and typing and searching for open source images to bolster the pages. Featured Image Schmahmann’s Bureau of Bureaucracy re-interprets the sixteenth-century European “cabinet of curiosities,” used to house wondrous, exotic objects. Instead of rare stones and fossils, this cabinet holds certificates, diplomas, licenses, medical reports, and financial statements, bureaucratic documents that reflect and define our lives in contemporary society. Behind the functional exterior of this piece lies a surreal array of inverted perspectives, false drawers, and hidden compartments—the artist’s subtle commentary on the true nature of bureaucracies. Yeah I am looking at it and wondering exactly when my skillset can be far enough along to draw it on a napkin to make my own. Thinking maybe, 2050 ish…. Fred W. Gerald
Amazing find on the Bureau. Love it and the finish in high gloss looks flawless. Cal, Gunny and FlGatorwood
FlGatorwood
That bureau is flawless. What craftsmanship! That is a real beauty. Looks almost perfect for an engineer to overlook drawings of construction projects. Museum quality. Cal and HARO50
Popular Post Cal
That bureau is truly art, not just in construction but in the whole concept and execution of it. You posted up another great pic John. Shortly before heading to Ohio the sheetrocker came in and drywalled the kitchen and half bath and hung a french door. As a result I pulled off the cabinet making and picked back up with inside jobs. I textured the ceilings in the half bath and sun room and painted the half bath and also purchased and painted crown moulding for those two rooms before leaving. A great trip to Ohio and spent four days helping our son on a couple projects he wanted done. I will try to post up a couple pics of my trip later. We went to a Menards in Columbus - I was like a kid in a candy store! Since getting back I have been going full bore on the house. Hung the crown moulding and have been painting the french doors. I plan to finish that job today. I've got some additional trim work under way and more painting in store for the week ahead. The lady of the house has been gone for nearly three weeks now, she was out for a week on business and then went to upstate NY to visit family. She is due to be back this weekend, I hope I can get something completed before she gets back! Popular Post Smallpatch
And just think how much more you could have done if you hadn't been been typing. Shame on you!! 1fizgig
That's an amazing piece of work - the Conifer addition I'm talking about. Thanks John. That stuff has some relevance even over here, so it's good to know I can find info on things like that if I want to. And that bureau is amazing. That must have taken a lot of hours. Didn't get anything useful done over the weekend, and I've been crook so far this week. My bench is bare. Although my wife and I did talk about a scale model of the buffet we designed together, and we did a bit of research into drawer slides by going to a few furniture shops. It's funny how a "high end" shop still has furniture that uses lower/mid-grade drawer runners. And some of the furniture didn't seem that great in regards construction. I guess it's all about the profits. FlGatorwood, Cal, steven newman and 1 other

My chest on chest dresser (purchased from what had once been a major manufacturer of good quality solid cherry furniture) did not use runners (that is, mechanical steel/plastic rails at the edges of the drawers). I consider it "high end" compared to most any furniture being made now that uses runners. all in the perspective. The price tag alone signifies this. But the craftsmanship, well, not as much. I would have expected a more solid craftsmanship than what I was seeing. You know how when you actually handle an item, you can often tell the quality? It was like that. I expected high quality, but what I was seeing was not that. I'm not sure how I would qualify it better than that really. It didn't feel like furniture that I couldn't get from a cheaper store elsewhere, yet the chain prides itself on luxury. Well even on a beer budget I suspect you could build better quality furniture than some of what I saw. Popular Post Gene Howe
We have my parent's solid cherry bedroom set. By "International". No longer in business. The set was purchased in the early '60s. Excellent quality. Superb finish. The dresser and high boy weigh a ton. Drawers are dovetailed in front and back. Drawers are also solid cherry with center glides of cherry. If Gerstner built bedroom furniture, it would be of this quality. I'm not much on furniture styles but, I think it's in the "Early American" style. Of all the wood furniture we own, that bedroom set is the only one I wouldn't attempt to duplicate. Oh, I believe I could build it. But first off, the materials would require me to re mortgage the house. Then, a second mortgage to buy the tooling. Then, I'd need at least a month of schooling with Keith. I think I'll stick with boxes. But, some quality time with Keith would be fun.
