steven newman
Took an hour to go past my parking spot....and there were even more parked downtown...the highlights? Might be a bit large..we'll see Start of the Parade.. Hmmm, there were a LOT of Corvettes in the parade...but.. I like these a bit better...not sure WHAT the baby blue one is... That be a Pick-em-up Truck...with a lot of"pick up'... Gotta have at least one Buick..right? Lookee what is behind the old pickup... Wasn't there a Beachboys song by this name? That Blue Ford Falcon...is a 62..I had a 64 4-door Futura in red..long time ago.. Gotta have a few "Bow-ties' ( 20 of them..) One for Morris...not sure WHAT car this is... Not exactly sure what this "thing" is.....was scooting along before I could get out and take a photo of the little bug... Single file up main street, took about an hour to finish up.... I remember in the beach town I grew up in, during the 70's little ol ladies loved driving those cars around, I believe that's a Nash Metropolitan, I can even see the name plate in my memory today. Cal
An hours worth, how many cars/trucks do you think there were all total? The wife & I took a cruise to Cuba a couple years ago - I really wanted to see all those old cars. It was a very cool experience from that standpoint. A serious disconnect for me, though, as I watched all those old American cars go by - no big block rumbles, they all went put-putting by with little diesel engines that had been retrofitted in them. FlGatorwood
The baby blue behind the Chevy is another older Chevy from the 1940's. The blue Falcon is 1964 or 1965. They made a Thunderbird style body from 1961 - 1963 and the box style body in 1964/5. The Nash Metropolitan was the response from Nash as a poor man's competitor to the Corvette and Thunderbird. I can't remember if Dodge, Plymouth or Chrysler had a similar response. The Tuskegee Airmen's car is about 1960 Chrysler. It was about the first model after the fins were dropped. It is about the first model that came out with the alternator and the ads were they could start the car and remove the battery and drive hundreds of miles without a battery. Interesting times. I wanted the 1965 Falcon as I was graduate from high school. That would have been a parade that I would have immensely enjoyed. But, where was the candy and beads? Link to comment
steven newman
The 65 falcon became the 65-1/2 Mustang. My first car was a 64 4-door Futura Falcon...square tail lights, straight 6 with hand choke. Then drove a 65 Ford Galaxie 4-door as a "family" car....with an A/C unit hanging under the dash.....learned to drive in a 62 Ford Galaxie...3-on-the -tree. 62 Fords had round tail lights. Also saw in that parade...Mercury Comet.....and a Ford T-bird about the same year.... Link to comment
Larry Buskirk
There used to be a rodded Metropolitan around here with an AMC 401 Interceptor under the hood, and steamroller tires under the rear. You could only see the differential between the rear tires. It was purple and named "The Ugly American". If I'm not mistaken the first Mustang was a 64 1/2. Link to comment

Gene Howe
Learned to drive on a '49 Chevy 1 ton. 4 on what was left of the floor. My first car was a '54 Ford with a straight 6. Automatic. Could barely get out of it's own way. Link to comment

FlGatorwood
My grandpa learned on a 48 Dodge with 3 on the tree. Then he purchased a 53 Dodge that the backend was Plymouth. It was a Dodge on approach and Plymouth on the departure. I learned on a 56 Ford 4 door Custom that was 352 CID with automatic. Not a power house, but would do 100 mph in a few seconds. Scared my granny a few times. Link to comment

FlGatorwood
Let's not call too much attention to ourselves. I don't want to be locked up ever again. And, I'm really not fond of those red and blue lights. Link to comment

They put it at the end of a relatively long straight road. Couple of the yunguns got some spray paint, marked a straight line across the road by it, marked it finish line. Drove a car 1/4 mile away from front of the unit, painted another line across the road and wrote Wakefield Dragway across the road. Took the PD till Monday to tow the unit away. Plenty of us did our best to get the highest speed. Link to comment
