Popular Post Mijohnson1984
So people keep asking for pictures so here’s a picture of my first bowl. Also a picture of a gag gift for the wife. Still need to hollow the bottom out and then cast some sky blue epoxy in the void. I’m calling it “glass bottom bowl.” Artie, p_toad, Lissa Hall and 5 others

Gerald
I do not think I was brave enough to take a picture of my first bowl. Neat idea about the epoxy Cal, FlGatorwood and Gunny
Popular Post Mijohnson1984
Lol my wife thinks I’m nuts and I quote “but it’s not a bowl” so I just reply “does glass bottom boat have a boat in it.?” That’s when I get the eye roll as she walks away. I just smile and laugh. Edited April 16, 2019 by Mijohnson1984 Cal, Gunny, Artie and 3 others

Steve Krumanaker
I have to agree with Lew and Gerald, my first efforts weren't anywhere as good as that. More than a few of mine were actually "flying bowls", for one reason or another..... Gunny, Cal, FlGatorwood and 1 other

I get the eye roll quite often, mostly followed by “You’re not as funny as you think you are “. p_toad, Dadio, Gunny and 3 others
Popular Post HandyDan
Nice. My first bowls all had straight sides. Looking good. Cal, p_toad, FlGatorwood and 3 others 2 3
Popular Post Mijohnson1984
I made the walls thick on it cause I was paranoid I was going to make a flying bowl duck game out of it. Did that to a spalted spindle couple of weeks ago. I swear it was singing come sail away as it flew off the lathe. So you have been visited by Father Murphy. We are on the watch for the guy. If you catch him, a slow painful torturous death is in order. I am thinking complete hair follicle removal. Takes 3-5 days, or so I was once told. FlGatorwood, Cal, Artie and 1 other
Popular Post Mijohnson1984
Rofl sounds like a plan and yes I think he was camped out in my garage shop for about a month. Ever power tool I owned had a hiccup or two but I got it worked out and sent him on his way. Cal, FlGatorwood, Artie and 3 others
Popular Post Ron Altier
That looks good! Each project will get better and your learning curve gets better and better. I had a great place for my first efforts. It was fully functional and served a great purpose. The shop wood burner disposed of many of my goofs and kept the place warm too Gerald, Gunny, p_toad and 3 others 4
Mijohnson1984
I had forgotten I had made a bowling type thing before it’s a ash try for my neighbor now. It started as an end grain hot plate thing. Then it somehow ended up with a base attached to it l and on the lathe. Not sure how it happened must be some magical turning fairy out there. Things seem to just appear on there all the time. Gunny, p_toad and FlGatorwood 2

I keep hearing about exploding and or flying bowls. I’m wondering if I did something wrong now lol. But thank you i took it really easy on the bowl it has thick walls because i played it safe. They are probably 1/2 inch thick so there’s a lot of meat left on it. Well I think that’s a lot still new to turning.
