Michael Thuman
I am finishing a pine project and the client likes the look of mineral oil over the pine. Then they want a satin finish poly. I am used to BLO not mineral oil. How long does it take mineral oill to cure so that it can be top coated successfully?
lew
I don't think mineral oil has any drying agents in it. It could take quite a while, I think. Cal
HandyDan
Stick with the BLO. Mineral oil is not s drying oil. Mineral oil is good for a cutting board but that is about it. kmealy, Gunny and Cal
Michael Thuman
Too late now we will have to wait. The pine really absorbs this oil. Once the wood feels dry can I top coat it? Cal

HandyDan
I would wipe it down with some acetone to get as much oil off as possible. Cal

Give it a day or two after wipe down to see if mineral oil rises to surface. If not then go with the BLO and top coat. If there is still a problem the top coat will remain tacky longer than usual. Gerald
I would not put any hard finish over Mineral Oil. Even glue will not stick to it. Try shellac overcoat and maybeeee the finish will stick. Like Dan said MO is only good for cutting boards.
