Popular Post Gunny
One of many things I said over the radio while in Iraq, and got in trouble for. 21. Follow the rules? Okay we will flip a coin and see how that works. They called heads, heads it is. Okay everyone listen up the enemy will be coming over the berm dressed in rags and yelling like they had a circumcision with razor wire. We will receive and put a patriot chip in the center mass so they can be relieved of said pain. How does that work for you? Trust me, we all were that way at one time or another. If we were smart, we learned real quick that there are decisions and consequences to all of the things we do. This, alone, was probably the best guiding light we had. Think it trough, determine if the consequences were acceptable, and if they were the decision was made. Get it wrong and you were stuck with the consequence. If we were real lucky, we had someone to guide us and teach us the best and safest way to do something. Fortunately, for me I rarely made the same bad mistake more than twice. Once because I was stupid and the second time because I believed I knew better. If it failed the second time, the old adage about the definition of insanity kicked in and I learned NOT to do it again. Popular Post 1fizgig
Oh, I love this thread! Great job on taking a newbie under your wing WBBN, that's a really important skill to have (even though you didn't plan for it). Sounds like the lad could do with a steady hand on the tiller and it seems you've tapped into his need to let out some creativity. Great stuff, keep it up. Loving the updates too! Thanks for sharing. Popular Post Gunny
Sunday my friend Ralph, his son is Brent of recent fame with a belt sander, gives me a call. Wants to know where to get a handplane. As I am no expert I suggested speaking with the guys at Highland Woodworking and told him I was about to make a trip there myself to look at a bandsaw. Later in the day we all meet up and head that way. Once we arrived a salesman came and asked what we were looking for, so Ralph and son were taken care of while I did my own shopping. Having decided on the older version Rikon 10-305 the salesman went to get it and meet me at the counter. Of course my wife texts me and needs to know where something is so I stepped outside to call home. When I come back the bandsaw is at the register and ready for me to pay. Or so I thought. When I went to get wallet the cashier tells me it is paid for. Thinking this was a mistake I asked by whom? Guy points to Ralph and say he did. Yeah father and son enjoyed a good laugh because I am sure the look of surprise was priceless to them. We loaded and headed home. I thanked my friend who then tells me after all these years I have yet to bill him for any work, or for the tools I gave Brent. So he figured it was high time I got something in return. Rest of the trip was a constant barrage of questions about all things Festool which Highland has several aisles devoted to. Probably have every tool they make. Tuesday I gave my old Craftsman 3 wheel to another friend who dropped by for help reassembling a Milwaukee saw. Said like me he always wanted a 2nd one for smaller work. Made a baseplate for it and installed this morning. Set up took a few minutes nothing difficult tracked well and made few test cuts. Next I will need to get a DC duct run to it. Previously a 8 inch drill press was in that spot. Moved that across the shop to be next to the larger one. p_toad, FlGatorwood, Artie and 4 others

He earned it today, we cleaned up the yard across from me. Lady is a retired Marine, and still can hang with the best of them. At 78 she thinks she is easily 50. Of course I introduced a new tool in woodworking. More brutal than what we are used to generally. The chainsaw. No, I did not let him cut the branches down. But he did a good job with the ones I stacked for him. Took about 4 hours. I had to go run an errand so he stayed behind and listened to a couple of hours of stories and even got served apple pie. He did alright, was proud of him. He refused payment even after she insisted. Told her if I didn't want anything for the work nor did he. NICE!
