Popular Post Gerald
About a month ago saw a post for a free pecan tree on Facebook. Well been too wet to get out there till today. We cut a truck load and barely put a dent in the tree . Going back in 2-3 weeks. This tree may be as much as 6 foot diameter at the base. In the pic that is my gray vest hanging on the tree for perspective. Dadio, Cal, p_toad and 2 others
Gunny
Wow pretty big one. Lots of potential in that one. Dadio, Cal and FlGatorwood
HandyDan
Great score except for the poison ivy vines that probably killed the tree. Be careful or you pharmacist background will be needed. If the vines are fuzzy it is poisonous. Huge tree for sure. Steve Krumanaker
Nice score Gerald, there are some pretty natural edge bowls in there I bet. Lots of pretty grain too. Steve FlGatorwood, Gunny and Cal
Cal
Looks like it was a live tree that was recently uprooted by one of the recent windstorms. Lots to work with to give your creative side a workout Gerald. It sure would be nice to get that main trunk slabbed, or maybe you have big bowls you've been wanting to try? Popular Post Gerald
Thanks . Dan I can roll in the stuff without problems. I do hope we can get to the trunk as it would make great patter blanks. HandyDan, FlGatorwood, Gunny and 2 others

kmealy
IIRC, pecan is a member of the hickory family. Is the wood similar? I think I have a 30 year old mallet made from some pecan that I have no idea where I got the wood. Cal and FlGatorwood

I've never had it but I'm cautious with it. FlGatorwood and Cal

FlGatorwood
I have one in my garage slabbed into 5/4 boards. It's been drying about 10 years. I guess it's time to break out some to see what happens. The trunk I have was cut into 11 foot lengths. My old Ford F150 didn't seem to mind hauling it except it did bow the bed and tailgate. hawkeye10
A lot of work ahead of you. A 5 or 6-foot platter would look good in your shop. FlGatorwood and HARO50 1
