Popular Post DAB
so my sister, who has a beautiful house in TX, has a set of salt and pepper grinders in her kitchen. but, when they are used and set down, they leak. spilling stray bits of salt and pepper on the counters. very sad. she texts me a picture of her grinders, currently setting in small ceramic tart dishes. "oh big brother, could you make something like this out of some nice wood" sure. send her a pic of a trial one in scrap poplar, with a square shape. hmmm....could you make it round inside and out. i think so, let me ponder it a bit. slept well, came up with a solution that does not require buying a 2-1/2" Forstner bit (that would be another $23, that's ammo money!). made a pair pretty easily this AM: Edited December 29, 2018 by DAB Gerald, Gunny, FlGatorwood and 5 others

You did a great job sir, no matter what tools you used. just made this today. will be donated to a fund raiser for a local family who had their house burn to the ground, losing all their material goods. and sadly, no insurance. 4 layers of cherry, mineral oil/beeswax finish. 7-1/2" outside diameter, 3-1/4" high, 6" inside diameter, 2" deep. cherry cuts great with sharp tools. which reminds me, i think i need some new carbide inserts for some of my tools.
