Popular Post IrishWoodCarver
In 2018 our church choir made a pilgrimage to Italy and actually had to opportunity to sing at a Papal Mass (means attended by the Pope). We also sang at several other basilicas and even held a concert for the people of Rome. It was a most rewarding experience. While there, we had several professional pictures taken, but they were kind of a weird size and my wife and I could not find an appropriate frame to display these pictures - so I decided to make one myself out of a slab of Buckeye I had, incorporating my chip-carving. Here is the start - pretty much cut to size, just playing with what I will carve into the face of the frame: Edited October 19, 2018 by IrishWoodCarver Artie, Grandpadave52, Fred W. Gene Howe
It'll be a beautiful frame for a picture commemorating a beautiful experience.

My goodness, that was something wasn't it! It actually failed, the artist meant for it to go all the way through.

LOL there was a story about a week ago, some artist known as "banksy" had a framed picture auctioned for 1.4M, and as the hammer was brought down, the picture was shredded by a built in shredder and partly came out the bottom of the frame. Thanks...I missed that one. Popular Post IrishWoodCarver
Finished the carving portion of the picture frame - here are a few pictures along the way - and a final product. Now onto sanding, carving cleanup, assemply and staining. I think I am going to try biscuits on the corners - rather large frame - would rather not just glue and pin - thoughts?? DAB
i concur with the biscuits. i've done likewise on frames that are wide enough. i've also used large staples on the back side too. very nice carving. Grandpadave52
Biscuits will help with your alignment and give it some strength in the corners...of course you could edge spline it with contrasting wood if you were inclined. BTW...great pictures too!! Edited October 21, 2018 by Grandpadave52 Cal and Dadio

Gene Howe
Biscuits sound good. Beautiful carving, Irish. The music theme is very nice. Cal
Popular Post IrishWoodCarver
Stain applied to carved areas, now waiting for it to dry before 2 or 3 more clear top coats. Even though I used a conditioner prior to staining, I did not get an even stain - maybe that is just how Buckeye looks stained. Bottom line - wife loves it like that - so I guess all is good - LOL! Of course I told her I planned for it to look like that!! :) - p_toad, Al B, Gerald and 4 others
Grandpadave52
Perfect Irish! The frame & the picture compliment each other to the fullest. The stain tone makes the picture colors very vivid...almost 3D. VERY nicely done. IrishWoodCarver and Cal 1
