Popular Post Cliff
It's been years. I have put up with a cluttered sloppy mess of bits in pill bottles poly wrappers making this drawer a complete unworkable disaster. Finally I got fed up with the madness and drilled a few holes in a hunk of ply I've seen People pooh pooh those router bit collections ( see the ones in red) I bought one for 30 sumpin bucks at a show and have never regretted it. I use the daylights outta them. Dadio, HARO50, DAB and 6 others

lew
That's great, Cliff, except I'd forget to close the drawer before using the router. HARO50, Stick486, p_toad and 3 others 1 2

Popular Post Ron Altier
I like that a lot, now if you have a good place to store it, you have it made. What we need is a system that automatically pulls out our storage boxes on request and when we are done, it automatically returns them to a storage place DAB, p_toad, Cal and 3 others

Popular Post Ron Pemberton
I, many years ago, did not know what a pill bottle was. Now I have so many they are everywhere in my shop with various items in them. Cal, Dadio, p_toad and 6 others 3 2
Popular Post Ron Altier
I used to use pill bottles, just about any thing that would hold things. Then I saw these see thru containers. NICE! You can take the whole thing with you or pick out any single compartment. I have all my "stuff" where I can see at a glance if it is in there. Ron Altier
Not surprised.........all are made in China. I don't always (most of the time) remember what I put stuff in. So these have helped greatly! p_toad, Dadio, HARO50 and 1 other 3

Herb I had the HF ones.. total aste of money.. the plastic is thinner, the hinges and latches were marginal and would not tolerate the cold w/o splitting... they only lasted a few weeks riding around in the truck... the Stanleys were much better and lasted a very long time.. same for the tool boxes.. the plastic ones fail soon and often and were replaced w/ metal... Popular Post tomp
I've been pretty happy with the Akro-type hanging bins, stacking them on the shelves. I replaced my collection of coffee cans with them and it is way easier to find things - you can see the cans stacked on the shelves to the right in this photo, the one I needed was always in the back. I replaced the cans with stacked Akro bins, picking the size that was just a little shorter than the shelf depth, and stacking them four high. This let me pick the one I needed a lot easier than rooting through the cans. I still have one shelf with cans for those fasteners where I have a larger quantity. This worked out so well that I finally got around to building my version of the Hardware Cabinet feathered in Woodsmith a ways back. It has two different depth drawers, holding two different sizes of the Akro bins. This let me really organize my hardware, no more spending the day looking for that one size screw, only to give in and go buy some more and then tripping over them when I got back. For larger quantities, I store them in the original packaging. For smaller quantities, I bought a box of zip-lock bags about the same size as the bins, and store like sizes - e.g. #10 machine screws of different lengths - in the same bin. This has really gone a long way towards solving some of my storage problems, just wish that I'd made it larger.
