Please accept my apologies for my part in the Nike Ad discussion. I will not do that again.

Unless there was something said that I wasn't able to read, I saw nothing wrong. You expressed an opinion as others did. Simple freedom of speech, nothing political. I also apologize for my part in the conversation.

Nobody needs to feel bad or apologize.

I am just as guilty and have had to delete my own political statements as well, I am trying to be better though, it's in our forum rules, no politics, and I have strayed just as well in the past. I had a whisp of a thought earlier today, one tiny forum, for politics, the caption below the forum, you would read, "Enter if you dare, thin skin and weak hearts beware, check your guns at the door".

Thoughts?

When it comes to politics, I know there are strong opinions that are far apart, even in my own family. We all love our country, but strongly disagree in many areas. As an independent  voter, 87 yrs old, I've voted for every elected president since Truman, except Nixon and Trump. No, I didn't vote for Hillary, I wrote in Bernie Sanders.  Language definitely would have to be controlled. No name calling.

As an independent voter, my youngest daughter 56 has become a hard line democrat and we do have our disagreements. On the other side, my oldest daughter is a hard line republican. We also disagree on many issues, but since she lives in Michigan and I'm in MA, we don't get to discuss politics much. She is, or was a Trump supporter.

@It Was Al B, I hear ya on the family dynamics, I have it near and close under my same roof, my wife dislikes politics, and she cringes when I bring it up, but if she agrees with something she loves politics, our current president makes her stomach turn, my oldest college aged daughter loves our president, my youngest girl is a very independent thinker and really I am impressed with her completely, she is the quiet one of the house, but when she speaks, it means something. My young boy son, he could care less, he just wants to be a Marine . Me, well, I quit politics, a few weeks ago. No, really, I did. I need to eat.

But if ya'll want a place to rant and rave, we may do just that, if we see the support for it.

Cheers!

I have no apologies or regrets.  No hating occurred that I am aware of.  Hat owes no apologies either.  The discussion was civil and fair as far as I saw.

Ron, I am in the process of re-working our philosophy community wide, to establish a no fly zone on flag ethics within our community. One thing, our flag should not be politicized nor disrespected in any manner, here, in "The PATRIOT Woodworker Community".

Just what I come up with I don't even know yet, but I am considering some very deep philosophical changes in the way we approach this subject. Whatever I come up with, will be from the bottom of my own heart, from me, it starts, and stops with me when it comes to our home here.

Please stay tuned.

@hatuffej, I'll echo what the others have said here already, you are fine!

Thanks Cal, that is what we do not want. We did try this back in our beginnings, and it failed, then we went to a no politics forum structure and I sure slept better. :)

Great opinion Cal, thanks again.

I hope that you do not add a politics forum John.  I've seen a couple real good web sites get ruined by it.  Even though they had all the rules that have been mentioned above.

The cancer may start out easy & civil enough, but it always deteriorates.  The hard liners on both sides begin shouting.  Friendships get tossed aside.  And the worst part is that the only new blood that comes into the site seems to come for the drama first and then TPW is just another politics forum.  In my mind, if you want politics turn on the TV or go to any one of a thousand other forums; if you want woodworking and good company welcome to TPW.

Just my 2 cents...

I totally agree. I regret the few times I entered such discussions and will try harder to avoid doing so again.

Well, then. Political jokes should be verboten, as well. No big loss as we see plenty of those on the news.

Hello Ron I feel your pain. That's the insanity of war and can never be understood. Politicians start wars and send guys like us to fight them. Many veterans hate the politicians who led us to war, especially the VN war. At a recent memorial for the 1863 Bear River Massacre I talked with a Northern Shoshone who was a Marine artilleryman at Khe Sahn during the siege. He told me he cannot reconcile his service in VN and the US army that destroyed an entire village of his people. Most of the vets I have talked with have said they just did their jobs and tried to survive and watch out for their buddies. That's the true honor of being a veteran.

Talk it out, Ron. You did your job.

Who We Are

Operation Ward 57 Challenge Coin Display Project

We are a woodworking community with an emphasis on sharing and learning the skilled craft of woodworking and all of its related disciplines. Our community is open to everyone who wishes to join us. We support our American veterans and active duty, being a veteran is not a prerequisite to join. Join us now!

Objective

Air Force Command Center Plaque

Of course just like most online woodworking communities we are centralized in the arts, crafts, and trades that are woodworking. But, we have another focus in our Patriot Woodworker community, we are the only woodworking community that was founded on our care and concern for our disabled veterans.

Volunteer

Patriot Woodworker Volunteers

The Patriot Woodworkers are an all volunteer community, from the staff and hosts who run our online woodworking community to the members who frequent our forums, you'll find volunteers in all of us. We are not on a payroll, unless you consider the spiritual rewards gained from volunteering, as compensation.

Education

Logging

One of the many projects we are working on is a wiki for our online community. A wiki is a great way for woodworkers and enthusiasts to share their knowledge to others, and to impart their knowledge for others to learn from, and utilize as well for their own benefit. We hope you'll consider being a wiki contributor.
