Search Function In Tips Subcategory

Recommended Posts

But, it did show up in unread content. Of course, if nothing is added or commented, it goes away. The only way I found to get it back was to go to the turner forum and look for tips.

Searching tags not fruitful. Besides, if one doesn't use the exact search term as tagged, it won't show up even if that function is operable. I'm thinking that a clickable index of all tips might be more useful.

Tags are not included in searches, tags are for clicking, to bring up all topics with the same tag.

A clickable index is the same as tags, click on a tag, and topics with the same tag appear.

Searching is different, if you do a search for "burnish" you'll bring up every single topic, gallery item, articles, blog, that has the word burnish in them.

Still lost. Where does one find a specific tag on which to click?

Scenario: I'm a newby searching for a tip to help me through a problem. So, I gotta go to the relevant forum, search the posts until I find one with a tag that MIGHT be what I need. Nope, that's not it. Start over.

Gene, tags are a helper for searching, not the end all be all. There are various ways to search for content, by category, by key words, by topic title, by department, by tags if you click on them, there isn't really any way around searching for a tip, the newby is going to have to put in the leg work to find what they want, there really is not a magic search pill.

If you know of a another community or site, that displays what you are asking for (I love what you are asking! it makes sense) then please link me to that community so I can see what you are wanting to do here. That way I can better understand how the search engine should act.

John, this forum is so far ahead of the curve in comparison to others I visit that I'm afraid I might be unable to fulfill your request. But, I'll look.:)

Thanks Gene, I am very serious about that too, if we can find another site that has a very awesome search functionality, I am always open to anything here.

Here's some cogitation material...if the link works.

Well, it don't.

Try out the Lumberjocks search function. I entered "measuring tips". It came back with an uncategorized plethora. But, my entry was pretty broad. May not be any better but it's easy to use.

Who We Are

Operation Ward 57 Challenge Coin Display Project

We are a woodworking community with an emphasis on sharing and learning the skilled craft of woodworking and all of its related disciplines. Our community is open to everyone who wishes to join us. We support our American veterans and active duty, being a veteran is not a prerequisite to join. Join us now!

Objective

Air Force Command Center Plaque

Of course just like most online woodworking communities we are centralized in the arts, crafts, and trades that are woodworking. But, we have another focus in our Patriot Woodworker community, we are the only woodworking community that was founded on our care and concern for our disabled veterans.

Volunteer

Patriot Woodworker Volunteers

The Patriot Woodworkers are an all volunteer community, from the staff and hosts who run our online woodworking community to the members who frequent our forums, you'll find volunteers in all of us. We are not on a payroll, unless you consider the spiritual rewards gained from volunteering, as compensation.

Education

Logging

One of the many projects we are working on is a wiki for our online community. A wiki is a great way for woodworkers and enthusiasts to share their knowledge to others, and to impart their knowledge for others to learn from, and utilize as well for their own benefit. We hope you'll consider being a wiki contributor.
