Popular Post Danl
The swivel bar stools are finally complete! Finish schedule is one coat BLO, one coat 1-1/2 # garnet shellac, and 3 coats SW Sher-wood Kem Aqua Plus clear. They were made per my wife’s specifications: 1) the stools have to swivel and go back to center when at rest, 2) they have to have a back support which is to be no higher than the counter top height, 3) she has to be comfortable sitting on it, and 4) they have to be made from cherry wood. The first prototype was 1” too short (for her). The 2nd prototype is taller and has mortise and tenon joinery (a 1st for me). I changed all the dimn for the legs and upper rails. The production stools have dimensions from both prototypes. Thanks for looking. lew
Wow! Those are spectacular! I really like the way you created the curved backs with the glue-up. The pattern of the wood color/grain really compliments the shape/design. Dadio

PeteM
Thinking of the recent discussions here about woodworking, your stools are the why of it. Nice custom jobs. How'd you do the swivel "back to center" thing? Grandpadave52 and Cal

There are two types of chair swivels 1) those that are flat and just go round and round https://www.woodcraft.com/products/swivel-flat-1-thick http://www.rockler.com/heavy-duty-swivel 2) those that have a slight tilt, rotate only so far in each direction and return to zero. https://www.woodcraft.com/products/swivel-return-1-1-16-thick http://www.rockler.com/3deg-tilt-swivel-select-standard-or-deluxe-swivel Edited July 14, 2018 by kmealy HARO50, Cal and HandyDan 2

I thought that he was talking about a swivel that rotates back to zero not a seat that tilts back to level. I have never heard of the former, a swivel that would rotate the seat back around to facing the counter after a person got off. Herb

It is tilted approx 3 deg and has a spring which allows the seat to return to the same position it was at when you sit on the stool.
