Popular Post steven newman
Well, last drawer is DONE! Soooo, how about a few pictures as a PIP? Fancy-schmansy top? Wondering WHAT the Amber Shellac will do to this view? Thinking the "build" part is done....now on to the finishing part... Just a fun, simple little project...better than IKEA ones, though? p_toad, Chips N Dust, LarryS and 7 others 9

oldwoodie
I see remarks about Ikea low quality. Who is Ikea? steven newman
lew
As much as I liked the exposed dovetails, I have to admit that the walnut strips tied in with the cross rails very nice. Great looking chest of drawers!. Grandpadave52, Chips N Dust and steven newman

Popular Post steven newman
Sanding to 220 grit is complete.. I have to carry these drawers by the handles, otherwise they are too slick to hold onto. Some spots needed a bit more than sandpaper.. A few high spots...block plane to bring them down. A couple rough low spots...I used a piece of glass as a scraper. Drawers got the same treatments.. Millers Falls No. 56B, Low Angle Block Plane. Glass scraper then took out those "white lines" in the walnut. Just on a whim...I got out a scrap of Maple and a scrap of Walnut....and gave them a coat of BLO.. Meh....will still go with the amber shellac....dries faster, anyway. About an hour's worth of work in the shop.....it is a Friday, after all. Chips N Dust
It already looks really great, but I think that shellac will put it over the top! steven newman

steven newman
Chest of Drawers has made it up the stairs, and out of that dusty shop.....needs wiped down. Spider Colony was evicted....and a small rock was found in on one of the webframes...wondered WHY Drawer #4 wasn't closing all the way. Waiting on a check to arrive, so I can go out and BUY a few supplies. Have a pile of off-cuts, and a few other planks left over...from three projects. Will try to do an inventory, and "plan" what else I can cobble up... Dadio, Grandpadave52, Cal and 1 other
Popular Post steven newman
OK, being a rookie at this sort of thing.....pint of Amber Shellac into a plastic cup, the about the same amount of DNA...mix a bit with the new brush...spread out some newspaper.....and slop this stuff on... Lighting could be a lot better....or the camera settings....Top? Shows a bit more "Yellow" than it should.....Front? Will try tomorrow, better light, a few more coats. May see about the camera settings.... Stay tuned... HARO50, Chips N Dust, Fred W. Hargis Jr and 3 others

Michael Thuman
Good build but here come some questions. Why use the walnut on the top and why split up the maple with the walnut strip down the middle? Why the walnut in the drawer face was the maple too short or the sides too wide? I believe it all come down to preference and no offense is intended I am just asking why. Like others said I like the exposed dove tails especially with the maple sides really shows them off. I was amazed to see what a little finish does it really brought the peice to life. steven newman
