the photography doesn't show the in-depth details but the hi-low contrast and grain play was for the benefit of the HO.. She has an issue w/ here eyes the makes life difficult her.. zero peripheral and seeing every thing as though she was looking through slits...

the visually enhanced threads and masking risers is an example... green walls, white trim, the floor layup (angle/color/grain) all played together...

the lay up worked out so that the steps helped her see the stairs... a horizontal riser was really bad for her.. she saw it as there were no steps... angled worked out the best but looked terrible.. extreme contrast as is was the compromise...

the railing was was a safety feature more than an ornament...

redid the railing and stairs to the 2nd floor too...

we played w/ a lot of combinations (test floors/steps) till one was worked out to her benefit... (grain/color/angle/offset/etc) she had a lot of difficulties w/ true perpendicular and inline...

I still say wider flooring would have made everything less busy, added character, and warmth...

her not being able to see in her mind's eye past 2D...

everything is laid out w/ Fibonacci/golden rule theorems for the aesthetics to fit the badly out of square irregular wall not straight parallelogram room the cut angles were 26x64°....
