  3. I bet you didn't know this! In the heyday of sailing ships, all war ships and many freighters carried iron cannons. Those cannons fired round iron cannonballs. It was necessary to keep a good supply near the cannon. However, how to prevent them from rolling about the deck? The best storage method devised was a square-based pyramid with one ball on top, resting on four resting on nine, which rested on sixteen. Thus, a supply of 30 cannon balls could be stacked in a small area right next to the cannon. There was only one problem....how to prevent the bottom layer from sliding or rolling from und
  4. Maybe it a auto mechanic's thing. Some years back, I took my VW Beetle to the local VW service center. Their waiting room was a windowed loft above the service area floor. By luck, the bay where they worked on my car was just below the windows and I could see the technician working. His tool chest/cabinet had every tool neatly arranged. Each tool he used was cleaned and put back in its original location as soon as he had finished using it. It was almost like watching a surgeon perform an operation.

  11. Beautiful day today, 62F clear skies. Will be going down to my Mother house for lunch and spend some time with her. Sister and her crew raided Mother yesterday. I suspect she will run my wife and I off so she can recuperate.
  12. It’s finally finished. First, thank you all for you comments and advise on putting the skirt on the table. I did put on on and it makes a world of difference. The table is 1 1/4 inch thick walnut. It measures 42wide and 72 long. It has 9 coats of General Finishes. Ar-R-Seal. (that stuff is beyond awesome!). The legs came from Bear Hollow Supply. They make the legs right there. My wife is beyond thrilled with this….happy wife, happy life, as they say. Anyhow here is the finished product. I should mention, this is my very first large table.
  13. I asked my 7 year old grandson if he believed in reincarnation. He said he didn't when he was my age.
  14. I'm not much of a believer in reincarnation but I'm starting to think @Gunny previously owned a hardware store in the 1870's.
