steven newman
Well, second weekend was a tad bit better. One sale today, in spite of the high winds.. There was a 1/2" pipe clamp laying under the shovels. Full tool boxes were $30..meh Had a few items leaning on the barn.. Already have one of those...I did pick up a box lot of .."stuff"....once I got it home... Lot of the screwdrivers were Torx. Anyone need a saw blade? Or, some sand paper? There was a plastic case in the mess, too.. Might need a little clean up? Closer look inside. Red handle is to a Plumb Ball Pean hammer. Estwing mason's chisel..not sure about the side handle for a drill, or that mitre gauge, big Visegrips pliers is soaking in WD40...some wrenches are Craftsman...some are junkers/loaners. Wind had cleaned a lot of the ashes out of the fire pit...found two items.. Grrrr, these two got roasted. Seymour Smith & Sons spokeshave ( also outside, soaking) and the remains of my Veritas MK1 honing Guide....$40 when new.. Box lot was $5. Sale is until this Saturday. IF they don't blow away...well it was a start. p_toad, Fred W. Hargis Jr, HARO50 and 1 other 3
steven newman
Location? Just west of CR 31 on St Rt 508......They still had a trailer load, still in boxes! Lots of box lots....$4-$5 per box. Have since cleaned up that spokeshave...was able to better read the logo on the blade..Seymour Smith & Son ( just one son..) Iron did need sharpened. Instead of spray paint, I used a Cold Blue Paste that is for gun parts. Looks much better than paint, too. Not sure who made the one in back, center one is by Stanley, front one is from Seymour Smith & Son. Well you're two sales ahead of me so far...none local yet...haven't had a chance to read today's paper to see if any are advertised for Fr-Su??? You did good for $5...I would have grabbed it too for $5...wrenches and hammer alone are worth more than that; looks like an old Craftsman miter gauge in there as well as a parts cleaning brush. I had confidence you would find things to fill up that newly found space. Bummer about Veritas honing guide...Sorry...RIP Great recovery on the spoke shave. I probably would have gone with the gun blue myself; sometimes it just seems more fitting for certain tools. steven newman
Gerald
What a deal. That gray tool box in the second pic would make great storage in the shop. Grandpadave52 and steven newman
steven newman
Gray box had at least 15 drawers in it....looked like an all steel machinist's chest....and was not empty..... the two browns? One was a Kennedy, the other a craftsman....both filled with tools...May go back Saturday, and see if the price had dropped.. p_toad and Grandpadave52

I'm probably like you most of the tools in the box I really don't need or want...mostly common stuff, but would really like the boxes. The "treasures" are in box lots like you found for the $5. Good luck if you go back. steven newman
steven newman
OK, had a couple "Extra" planes I wasn't using...taking up shelf space. Decided to take them out to be traded off. Happen to know a place that buys, sells and TRADES antiques. So...two less than stellar planes were traded off for three items.. A Ratchet Versatool, a 6" try square, and a Stanley #60-1/2 Low Angle block plane. Dunlap #3 "paid" for the square, and the screwdriver....the Anant A4 paid for the block plane.....even swap. No money involved, no hassles. Block plane is going to take a while...the other two just a slight clean up. Not too bad of a day,...even stopped raining! Grandpadave52
Nice finds...get a gallon of white vinegar and let the plane soak for 12-24 hours...make clean-up much easier. Save the vinegar you use into a clean gallon container to reuse the next time. steven newman and p_toad
Al B
Wow Steve, you sure turned that spoke shave into something spectacular. steven newman
steven newman
Tried to pull an inventory on the Tool chest.....had a bunch of junk to toss out, first.. By the time all the useless stuff was pitched into the trash... Still looking for the mandrel for those sanding sleeves...so, top two drawers? Will have to sort through this, as well..next two? Left drawer is a lot deeper than the right one, because IF I push this one back and pull the one under it out.. The next drawer was full width, but almost empty.. Which left one more drawer.. I did find one item that almost looked like a chisel.. Might be worth the $25 for the chest? Yep and then some at least for what I've seen on CL...a about a couple weeks ago a guy near Indy had one just like this one and honestly didn't look quite as good and his had been cleaned asking price of $40...didn't stay on long so I assume he got it...Knew a lot of guys in the trades who had Craftsman Machinist chests. IMO, anything in it was a bonus... 2 hours ago, steven newman said: Still looking for the mandrel for those sanding sleeves. Look like they might be either 3/4" or 1" ID??? Menards sells (or did) individual mandrels...or... https://www.harborfreight.com/sanding-drum-kit-20-pc-60741.html...don't forget your 20% off coupon steven newman and HARO50
steven newman
Ok...decided to at least rehab that block plane today....took almost as long to sharpen the iron, as it did to clean the plane up...here we go.. Side view. Top view? Colour is called "Cordovan" by Stanley....knob is missing a few spots of Nickle Plate.. As for that box? Hmmm, almost twins? Almost twins...slight differences.. 1/2 hour for clean up, 1/2 hour to sharpen.....A new honing guide came in the mail... A friend on LumberJocks had an extra one. Stone that comes with these Irwin Marples guides isn't very good...but I do have others. sharpened to 2500 grit. Will give them a try out later. may keep one in the box, and use the other? steven newman
Another weekend...three more sales to check out.....rather skimpy, hurting my batting average. ONE item in three sales? At least it didn't cost much.. $5 for this old metal box? Just an old metal box....but, when you open the lid.. I now have a home for some of my loose drill bits....The drill? Says it is a 1/4" B&D Standard Drill..but has a RIGID "Supreme" 1/4" chuck on it. Even has a chuck key! Might see how it does....and give my PowrKraft drill a break? p_toad, Dadio, HARO50 and 1 other

It's a "U" series and by the polished aluminum body and gray/black handle and gray switch, circa late 60's to very early 70's. Very GOOD drills... YOU DID GOOD!! Check against some of these for a general idea of model... Edited April 22, 2018 by Grandpadave52 steven newman, HARO50 and p_toad
