Popular Post steven newman
Other thread was getting longwinded. Decided to carry on in a new one. Floor no longer had a creek running through the shop...went down and cleaned "house" The other day, I couldn't even tell where this benchtop was. . Brass wheel was removed from the grinder, as was the old, worn out wire wheel on the other side. Bought a new 1" fine wheel. Installed that. Sanding center was getting in my way a lot...decided to switch the two around.. Air compressor can stay there. Or, even slide further under the bench. bench is just an old tabletop ( no legs) sitting on a pair of sawhorses. "plan" was to slide the drill press as far to the left as I could...without getting in each other's way... Had to re-route the power cords ( need a couple wire ties, too) And, IF I need the vise.. Table is easy to remove, and stashed out of the way. Drill til? Needed a topper to it. Hauled that fancy 1 x 10 to the shop. Crosscut and ripped to size....needed pilot holes.. Then a countersink was used.. Why change bits, when I can just change drill and all....installed the top on the til..then moved the entire mess to it's new home.. Another view? Still a lot of storage space, both in front.. Might be another couple boxes headed this way....and, since there IS a flat shelf on top.. Couple of spokeshaves, most of my squares, and a marking gauge...have to work on this area a bit more. There was one brace drill that was too big for this til.. The 14" Stanley is now "hanging" with the Eggbeaters.... Still have quite a bit of pine left over.. So, I'll see what I can cobble up out of this..stay tuned.. HandyDan
It is a good idea. But I store a lot of things in the rafters since it is convenient. Popular Post steven newman
Oh, there is still plenty of stuff just hanging around,,, Clamps and "extra saws. Most of the mitre box saws Some items try to hide under things.. Might have an idea about that "old" drill til... Might add a strip of wood to this, and hang most of the hammers here? Right now, they are all jumbled together in a drawer. The drawer under the plane til.. About anything with a long handle is in a drawer below this spot....need to clean it out, someday....who knows WHAT I'll find in there.... Popular Post DAB
since we are showing off storage ideas, some clamps on a mobile base: there were a few in use, so they are not pictured. shop is a dedicated 25x50, 12' ceiling, building designed to my specs. not cheap, but there is no point dying rich. so i don't have the same space constraints as some others. yay. Popular Post steven newman
Cat had a "hot date" outside...reverted back to being an Alley Kat.... Drawer is now empty...will need a couple Contractor sized trash bags.. Not only did I find a second ( all metal!) sabre saw, I found a few clamps, some big... Some a bit fancy.. Lots of files.. The hammers went into a til.. At least the ones that were IN the shop. Even found a square, of sorts.. Also found a second mallet.. So..I need to go out and buy some trash bags, and continue the Spring Cleaning....Stay tuned.. Popular Post oldwoodie
I noticed the egg beaters. If you have one that has a small round sticker on it with "Defiance by Stanley", You have a real collector's item. Stanley made a line of them when the King of England said he would never be able to make a living in America making tools: They will all be inferior. So, Mr. Stanley made the defiance line in defiance of the king! Artie, p_toad, Grandpadave52 and 3 others

Popular Post steven newman
Ok....day two..or three....forget, now....First trash bag was about 1/2 full... And already at 100 pounds in weight....cable tie to close this one up, and haul it to the trash can outside...WHEW...getting too old for that. Yellow scooper was used to haul a few loads to the firepit... Snow shovel came in handy. Some loads were mixed.. Some weren't. 4, maybe 5 such loads to the firepit...whew. Set up a second trash bag, had some things to scoop up.. Had a few piles like this to scoop up...I also cleaned under this bench...and another bench... Even under the bandsaw... Trash bag #2 was getting a bit full, but.. This will do, for now...back was hurting, from bending down to pick some of the stuff up. Next time, I have this area to clear out.. Not really sure WHAT is all in there...will find out tomorrow...maybe. Stand is for the old bandsaw...might just slide it over to the til bench, and add the router table in here. Maybe THAT will keep the junk pile out of here... Cable ties.... Tidied up the power cords. White powerstrip has it's slots pointing down, keeps the dust out. I turned it over, after this picture.... Later this evening, fire pit will get lit....have to make room for the next load.... Need someone else to haul them trash bags outside....too many trips up and down those stairs. Yet, every spring, I still clean the place out. Stay tuned... Chips N Dust, p_toad, Grandpadave52 and 4 others
Grandpadave52
You did make sure @lew's mallet and the other mallet didn't get mixed in with the yellow tote trips didn't you? Don't over do it...sub out the heavy trash bag hauling up the stairs. Popular Post steven newman
Ok, decided that #2 trash bag was full enough...@45 pounds. Hauled it out of the shop. Set up the Bandsaw, as I was taking a break from cleaning the shop.... Set up to turn 3/4" stuff, into 3/8" slabs...Ran a bunch of Pine through.. One was a tad too wide to resaw. Picked a pair that seemed to match well enough for a glue up... Boards in front? Well, maybe a box COULD be built.... Have a few other parts to find a use for, as well.. Will have to plane things flat, first....needed to make a jig for that, too.... 1/4" plywood, plus a block for a few screws. Jig wanted to twist a bit....third screw stopped that. After two of these.. Back was starting to stiffen up...decided to clean up the mess.. Sweep all of this mess into the Yellow Scooper, and have it ready for the fire pit, tonight. Will let the glue up sit a day or so. A better look at the panel? This was from before the glue up. Book-matched Pine? Stay tuned...either a clean shop, or a fancy box will be coming up.... steven newman
Well, Monday is gone, Tuesday has arrived....and I promptly made a mess in the shop, to open things up. Nice clean floor? Tracked the culprits down...still had shavings in them.. Seems I hand planed the two long side pieces, and this top panel, until they were flat... Lid? As for the sides.. I had already planed the ends, Sunday.. Which now leaves these to work on.. Might make these into a bottom panel? There was some talk about the difference between a smoother, and a jack plane...mainly how "tight" the mouth opening should be... Something like this? #4 vs #5. While digging out the piles of junk this morning, found a couple "accent" pieces.. Just a couple Walnut scraps....be a shame to burn these two.... Ok, to clean out the hole in the wall....I had to pick up and carry this thing out of the way.. And proceeded to drag all the mess out to where I can pick through it, and then toss the trash out.. Have load #4 ready to go out the door.. Some of thr "Treasures" I found back in there... An old Plough plane...#4 is there for "scale" needs a LOT of rehab work done....some other time...next.. A Stanley Handyman square...next.. Original boxes, for a couple of my block planes, and.. Anybody need a 5/8" plug cutter? One other piece of "scrap" A 6/4 piece of Maple....might be good for a few handles? Emptied out a wheeled trash can....when I get things back to "Normal" in the shop....I can sweep up and dump into the can. Might be another 4 loads in there? Will have to wait, until the firepit has a chance to burn down a bit....maybe this evening? We gaining on it.... Stay tuned....and bring some Marshmallows... lew, Grandpadave52, Chips N Dust and 1 other
