Popular Post Ron Altier
My daughter just had her wash room relocated to a much more convenient location. I thought I'd surprise her with a reminder of the way her grandmother did the wash. It is about 8 inches high and will hang on the wall Edited March 23, 2018 by Ron Altier spelling Stick486, Harry Brink, Grandpadave52 and 8 others 10
lew
That's pretty cool! I remember doing the laundry with one of these during the summer when my parents were at work. HARO50

Dadio
Now that has to be a first. First time I have ever seen a wringer washer carving. That is so cool, good job too. Herb HARO50
Popular Post Ron Altier
Bandsaw carving, I can't carve due to a condition in my hands. My daughter loved it and texted me that she needed a dryer. I told her that they didn't have them back then, they dried them on the line. So I think Karen is giving her a small wall hanger quilt that is about 3 ft square Grandpadave52, Harry Brink, HARO50 and 5 others

And Ron, does your mind ever stop being creative? Detail even down to the drain fitting for the hose. It's simply cool. I still remember both my grandmother's using theirs...only difference from yours, the tubs were round. I think they both were Speed Queens Thanks for sharing...good memories... PeteM
We raised our kids with solar drying, on the line. UV here is intense, and sterilizes the diapers; no rashes. I still put stained napkins out on a line to bleach. HARO50, lew and p_toad
schnewj
I remember, pre-grade school, going into the "basement" (you know, that room under part of the house with the dirt floor) to do the laundry. Hers was round, not square, and yes she used solar drying. I would still prefer to have sheets and towels "solar dried". However, all I ever heard was that they were too stiff, and scratchy! How can you not like that fresh smell that only "solar" drying gives you? p_toad, Dadio, lew and 1 other

Dadio
Ron, that quilt is super duper cool. So much talent going on here ,I can't believe it. My Grandma had a hand crank wringer and my mom had a green porcelain tub electric one ,don't remember the brand. Some neighbors had a gas engine driven washer, a small 2 cycle kick start single cylinder motor. Also those little 1/4hp washing machine motors powered up lots of other equipment after the washer duty. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=vintage+gasoline+engine+wringer+washers&t=ffsb&atb=v80-5&iax=images&ia=images Herb
Gene Howe
Ron, there's just so much talent at your house. The washing machine and quilt are awesome. Like Pete, we use the solar drying method. Things dried on the line smell and feel so much better. Nothing beats a line dried towel after a nice shower or bath. schnewj
p_toad
I remember my grandmother having a mangle on one of her machines and lines outside propped up with bamboo she grew in the back yard. Her stuff was in the basement and emptied into a sump pit and we used to catch heck for playing in the coal bin.
