Thank you Stick, Dan, and Lew. Thank you as well Jim.  I'm not very good about keeping track of time when I'm turning, I've tried to do that but then I'm conscious of it and I either get in a hurry or it starts to feel like a job. I'd guess maybe an hour or a little more with prepping and gluing and such. FWIW I do use one of the Easy hollowers on the inside. It's just easier since it's end grain. The finish on these is Myland's friction polish. I am NOT a fan of friction polish but like I said in the OP, these are for grandkids, the boxes will be lucky to survive the holidays.

Lew, the spalting is nearly at the perfect stage on this wood, sometimes it's better to be lucky than good!! :)

Great job on the boxes. I do not do many boxes but I do love them.

I get that. These are probably the first ones I've made in 3 or 4 years. Wouldn't even be doing these if not for a special request from my most important, most beautiful client. You know the one I mean ;)
