Popular Post John Moody
A busy week this past week and I don't see a let up until Christmas. I'm thankful for the work and it keeps me busy in the shop. Before retirement this would have been a nice long weekend, but now they are all long weekends. As much as it is nice to get the time in the shop this weekend, let's not forget the purpose of this holiday. A time to remember all our veterans and the price they paid and pay for our freedom. To those of you that have served, thanks you for your service. This week I finished a batch of breadboards. I've got to get busy, I just need 116 more right now. I also finally finished the Oak Cabinet door, got the glass installed, hinges and install on the cabinets at the customers. European hinges for a face frame with 3/4" overlay. She purchased the cabinets at a yard sale and wanted to have doors made so her son's trophies and memorabilia could have a home and not have to be dusted so often. Originally I was going to only make the doors but later she decided she wanted me to stain and finish them. So not they are all done and installed on the cabinets The cabinets will be attached to the wall as soon as they are in place. If you open all four doors at once it will tip forward. I am also trying to finish this weekend the Walnut Island top. The top will be 37 1/2" wide and 87" long and 1 1/2" thick. I am putting it together in four pieces. The last two are in clamps right now. When I get those out in the morning, I will join two of them together and then later I will join the two pieces to make one really large and heavy walnut island top. So that is what's going on in my shop and on my agenda this weekend, what's on your agenda? You know we love to see and hear about all of your projects and woodworking. Share with us your Veterans Weekend Plans. Remember what ever you do this weekend, make sure to work safe. Gene Howe
Still rearranging and reorganizing. Gawd, how can one person accumulate so much plain JUNK? Twenty years of hoarding will do it. steven newman, Cal and HARO50
Popular Post lew
Been working on ordered Christmas presents. Hope to get the last of the finish on so they can go to California Monday or Tuesday. I like your breadboards, @John Moody. I made some a few Christmases ago and made a place for small ramekins as dipping bowls- Routed a shallow recess, the diameter of the ramekin base into one end of the board. Popular Post John Moody
@lew I should have turned one of them over. They have a routed recess for a dipping bowl. I’ll have to take an updated picture tomorrow. p_toad, Cal, steven newman and 2 others
Popular Post Grandpadave52
Shop work is probably done for the season...Near record cold last night and could hit a record low tonight. I moved glues and other perishables in to warmer environment a few days ago. Swim practice transport duties tomorrow AM. Oldest grand-daughter has her "first actual date" tomorrow night attending the fall formal dance followed by after party. Probably will be very tense around here. Fox Midwest is carrying the 124th annual Monon Bell Classic tomorrow so I plan to watch it. Oldest football rivalry West of the Alleghenies and one of the best D-3 football games you'll ever see. Wabash College is located in our county seat. For the last several years both schools bring in portable bleachers in addition to stadium seating and the games continue to sell out. Regardless of records (Wabash is 7-2; DePauw is 8-1, 2017), this game brings excitement and bragging rights plus Bell possession for a full year. Wabash had won 7 consecutive years tying a record until last year...lost by 3 points in the last seconds of the game. If you enjoy great college football you can stream it tomorrow from this page: Wabash Sports Beautiful work on the cabinets John. I hope you take lots of pictures for us once that walnut counter-top is done and installed. An observation: You've got a LOT of clamps! steven newman, HARO50, Cal and 2 others
Popular Post Ron Dudelston
Just returned from setting up for a Holiday Show tomorrow. There are 165 vendors at this show and they expect about 3,000 guests. The bad news is that I have a "double" space and it is only 10 foot wide so I'm really crammed in the space. The best news is that I have a cell phone signal and I can take credit cards! steven newman, lew, Cal and 5 others
Grandpadave52
Best wishes for a great show Ron. Is this your booth at the show? If so, ya' been holding out on us (me) with that wooden JD A or G or 70? model. That a very authentic replica especially from wood. Pretty large show with that many vendors. Hope all goes well. lew and HARO50
Gerald
Worked the second day of Harvest Fest at the Ms Ag museum today and for me 2 good days in a row as I do not usually sell my work. I think I sold about 15 tops yesterday along with 2 flowers and maybe the same today with some other stuff . So I turned tops all day (9-2) to replenish sales. This is a new experience for me totally. This was done thru our club, Magnolia Woodturners. We also promote the club and get contact info to add to the email list. I just had them all turned upside down when I put the oil on. I do do like the handles you put on yours. Popular Post Harry Brink
John, I think I mentioned when you retired that you would be more than busy. I looks like I was right. Good looking work! As for me, too cold in the shop the last few days, (20*) and with the Santa visits coming not too much is going to get done until next year!
