Popular Post Ron Dudelston
Well, I am one week into a cradle build for a customer. He bought a cradle about 25 years ago and wanted it replicated. Thanks to the guys that noticed in the photos that the spindles in the original cradle were too far apart and didn't meet federal standards. After I took this photo, I added trim strips in the stile grooves. Hopefully, tomorrow I can finish sand this thing and get it glued together. As a point of discussion, the bottom is 1/2" walnut and I cut a dado in the end panels. Under the bottom I'll add a cleat all around the underneath side of the bottom. My OCD side kicked in and I added dowels to each rail on the sides for strength. Stick486, Harry Brink, p_toad and 5 others

No. I bought them from a company in Canada. I bought them cheaper than I could turn them and they came sanded. Winner, winner chicken dinner! Cal
That looks superb Ron. What type of finish will you use? Final pics after the finish is applied are mandatory! Cal Grandpadave52

I would prefer to spray it with Seal Coat and then spray a few coats of General Finish Endurovar. That's a discussion for later next week. kmealy and Cal

John Moody uses it and loves it. Like any water based finish you'd have to raise the grain and sand it back. That it my morning project today. Beautiful work. Sanding 36 spindles should be fun. I'm a turner and thought "I hope he bought those" when I saw them. Definitely a job for at least a duplicator. Gerald
Great piece of work . I do not envy you on the glue up much less the finish on all those spindles, might want to prefinish them as that will be a hard spray Ron Dudelston

Marv Rall
Ron-----Use Zinsser sealcoat prior to finishing with waterbased finish. Very to no touch sanding required. The best kept finishing secret that I know of is that that sealcoat will seal over any previous material and any finish can be applied over it . Also I find that sealcoat will pop the grain---especially on walnut. kmealy, Gene Howe and Dadio
