A Project in Maple..

Went to the shop, to check on the glue up....wasn't happy with it....one panel was out of square, and 1/8-1/4" too wide.....remove the stile, got the offending panel fixed.

Re-installed everything, and re-glued the stile into place.   Two pipe clamps to hold things tight, until tomorrow.

Got one of the end panels out of the clamps....was only one still on it, anyway.    It needed squared, imagine that....and needed flattened due to...another too thick panel.

Got it almost level with the other half of the panel.   Then started to bevel one edge.....got it done, done I was too tired to do any more.

Took the camera back to the shop....

After the repair, only needed two clamps.   One of the end panels only had a single clamp on it, might as well put it on the bench..

planes.jpg.617b5b40b59fcc91854ca468df22e8a4.jpg

That old square showed the panel was out a bit...and not parallel on the ends....Bandsaw to correct.   New jig was cobbled up, and the planes rounded up..

The #5c was for hogging off most of the waste, and getting the panel flat..... the #4c worked mainly on the bevel..

beveled.jpg.a8eea5c282e0c27dde04769c3bb63799.jpg

With the #4 smoothy to fine tune things.   Got things close, then flip the panel over..

To give it a back bevel.    I also ran the plane over the field of the panel....then a test fit..

59c7061bf3bce_testfit.jpg.f1ce2bd96d9bc9c2e8c6336135c1ff37.jpg

Will fine tune the fit.   Rotate the panel around, and repeat.....until the shoulders say    STOP!

Then haul the laundry upstairs, and close the shop...

Stay tuned...

And now have them stashed out of the way.    Reset a jig...

jigged.jpg.1a4bb6c60e1fac3aeb03bfc746025ca4.jpg

And gave it a test run.....have the "other" plane ready to go, as well..

Maybe I could use a couple from the "Ready Rack"?

Went back to the shop, to do a dry fit of sorts...

No glue.   The end in the back?   Is in bass-ackwards.  Panel is facing the wrong way.

Raised panel is facing the inside.   Will turn it around during assembly....( I hope..)

Thinking of doing that T&G  corner joint, again.    More to align the parts, as I hate when they go squirrelly on me.

Need to reset the Stanley #45 with a match cutter...

Stay tuned

No shop time today, sorry guys.   :o COPD was kicking my rearend something fierce, today. :(    haul a few loads ( SMALL ) of shavings up to the fire pit...and burned a stack of empty boxes....not much else got done.      Express Scripts wanted $20 to ship an  inhaler to me.     Also set up an appointment to see a Lung Doctor.    Didn't get any woodworking done:huh:

No apology needed Steven...Most important thing is for you to take care of yourself and do what is needed there. The project and your followers can wait.

Take care of yourself please!

.I am sitting here, pulling dried glue off my fingers....and having a Mountain Dew......and will just sit for a while...

Glad to know you're feeling better...Not a bad days work IMO..

I'm not pulling glue off, but do have a fountain MD (custom blend 1/2 diet 1/2 straight) I picked up at the convenience mart after ordering parts at the John Deere store.

Getting ready to fire up the little welder and try to fabricate a better part from old parts til the new pieces parts arrive...or I may join you and just sit a while too:P

Went and removed the clamps a little while ago.....a few creaks...both from the case, and from me...

Diagonal clamp actually pulled the case just past "square".......so when it came off, the case sprang back a bit..right into Square.

Lots of squeeze-outs to remove.....chisel for that.   couple "high" spots, as well....few swipes with a No.4 plane took care of that.

Now sitting on it's own four feet, on the floor.   Will let it set overnight.

Stay tuned....I may have found a speed slower than smell....

Our little 3 month old pup got sick....and died before we could get her to the vet.......been a downer two days....:(:angry:

Glued in a frame for the case's bottom..

frame.jpg.5b539b9645990f7f409a3f413cf72612.jpg

Got the feet trimmed to match each other..

feet.jpg.c0f531df0e2302db52288707a646c3fb.jpg

Used a chisel and some sanding.  Panel for the bottom was cut to size..

panel.jpg.7fc1cbefd566f73eda1abc2f71fc006a.jpg

Took a few tries....then glue and screws.....was having a bad day, anyway..

Took a trip to Menard's last night....needed a maple 1 x4.....( $11.95 !)  and picked a sand-pack..

59cffc8b53b2a_sandpack.jpg.d2d47a3b94360e89f9ae53b31b86ec0d.jpg

Hey, for $5, I can find some use for these...cut a 31" long chunk of the Hard Maple 1 x 4   and added it to the edge of the blank for the lid...

glue-up.jpg.bcffcd762152558ec98b12df8a8e03d4.jpg

This afternoon, after a few Honey-do items,  I got the clamps off for a test fit..

59cffd40054e6_testfitlid.jpg.3f86e6589dd22ea9f0a8c2ae51d4adf4.jpg

Too long, and too wide, now....we can fix that..

59cffd97b071c_vintagesaw.jpg.01dc15fc0cecaf537b52982d59528d8d.jpg

Framer square to mark a line.  saw to trim the excess off....both ends.  Wasn't in the mood to take things slow...

59cffdfe7fe24_trimmedwidth.jpg.df3d510446c4f5028e32b2692c582d53.jpg

First trim for width...wasn't quite right....measured from the backside, and then used a straight edge to mark a correct line.  Board was wider at one end than the other...fixed that, too...more corded stuff..

59cffeb38fde3_routertable.jpg.64b065f33fdcd36763c2b8834fdb05c3.jpg

That be a dovetail bit in a router table...nasty, messy, disturbers of the peace & quiet thing.:angry:   It needed to do four passes..

dovetail.jpg.deae57a24f959fd15fa969ab07418961.jpg

Needed two of these.    Then the bit was needed elsewhere, so...time to "Move it, move it"

router.jpg.a5c1b33b5bbcc4cc333a885fac9e6de9.jpg

Took a couple tries to set that fence in the center of a board's edge...first time was off center...:angry:saw that mistake off, and set the fence again....

slider.jpg.b2d4f3896a8ad63eeadd9f171bf481e6.jpg

Clamped some scrap on the backside, to help support the fat...er. wide base of the router.   This is the test fit.

A few drops of glue into the socket..and slide the breadboard ends into place..got both ends done..

lid.jpg.6d6922025bbe4134d3e109235defffba.jpg

The ends of the bread boards will need trimmed for length.....may do a radius  on the corners...

59d000cd06c1b_cornerdetail.jpg.0965366344ab5d8f78a75eb20bc36aad.jpg

Will see how this all looks, after a day of sanding....needed to clean me and the floor up..

floor.jpg.89d89abe8935344103c89bd4843a4afe.jpg

As we were both about as dusty....camera battery was needing recharged...time to stop for the day...

Stay tuned...
