What is the "@" for?

Recommended Posts

This isn't a bug so much as just a question.  What is the purpose of "@" and a members name in a post?  Is that to get the person's attention to something they might be interested in, or does that actually serve a designed function?

The @ is just what you mentioned- to give the member a heads up that they were mentioned in a post.

I've been using it to let turners know I have mentioned them in the "Wednesday's..." posts.

Does that make it show up in their notifications icon?

And if you click on the name shown, you get shot over to their profile as well, where you can read all about their interests and hobbies and areas of woodworking they love, that is if their profile is filled out, which in many cases is not the case. Folks, fill out your profiles!:)
