John Moody
Today I was finally able to up and down the steps in sequence. Four weeks today since my knee replacement. I did spend a little time in the shop today cleaning up and putting things away that got left out before surgery. Hoping to to spend a little more time this weekend and start working on a project that is still on the bench. Taking it in short times and not making big plans. So how about you all, what's on your agenda this weekend? All of us love to hear about your projects and see pictures. Looking forward to seeing what you all are working on this weekend. Chips N Dust
Great to hear that your recovery is going so well! I am going to try to get into the shop this weekend as well. I also have few outside chores to do IF it is not raining and blowing to much. I may also watch the Packer game on Sunday. Not to sure how much of the other I will watch. lew
Had to recut a couple of pieces for the Communion table. My fox tenon did not work. LarryS, Chips N Dust and John Moody
Al B
The cold weather doesn't make my shop very inviting. For now I'm spending a little time on a ship model that was started about 3 years ago. Those of you from the WOOD forums probably remember the Niagara. Not a whole lot more to show right now. Popular Post Steve Krumanaker
Not a lot, kind of rearranging the shop just now. I had my lathe parallel with an outside wall and have turned it 90º, that has developed into a bigger job than I anticipated. So, I'm still figuring out how and where to move lighting, dust screens, dust collector pick ups etc. etc. It will be worth it when I'm all done I think. I have one more blank to turn from the walnut I harvested this fall. I am S-O-O-O tired of turning walnut for now. Stopped for lunch and forgot to clean off the ways on my lathe today. When I got back in the shop there were big rust spots everywhere. It's amazing how corrosive wet wood, especially walnut, can be. I have an order for a batch of my mason jar honey dippers so I'll be starting on those in the next few days. They are pretty quick to make so that's not a big deal. Just enjoying these balmy Indiana January days. Steve Edited January 21, 2017 by Steve Krumanaker lightening? seriously? Popular Post Harry Brink
I'm still trying to recover from Santa's slip and fall on the ice! I was at the car and the next thing I knew I was flat on my back. I don't bounce like I used to. It's up to 30* in the shop now so I'll put my jacket on and try to get busy for a while. My wife has a new tablet and "smart" phone and I'd like to make a stand for both while she's visiting in S. Calif. Popular Post Ron Dudelston
I'm smack dab in the middle of building my daughter's ukelele rack so I'll be working on it Saturday. The hard part about this project is the fact that it has to be assembled at the school so I'm doweling everything to ensure it all fits together. Popular Post Cal
Been doing yard work all week, with temps in the 70's and sunny skies! Supposed to rain for the next 2-3 days so I plan to finish up a wardrobe I started for my daughter a couple weeks ago. She came home last week and changed up the plans a bit and we discussed some storage trays as an addition to it. Wednesday, while tugging on the last branch of a thorny russian olive the branch broke - snapped back and I took a thorn to the forehead. Not just that, but the son-of-a-gun fishhooked around and broke off. I was able to pull it out, took a couple benedryll tablets and cleaned up & had supper. Two hours later my eyes were starting to swell up and the lump on my forehead was growing larger! A trip to the "emergency" room; two shots, two prescriptions and three hours later I was home... Y'all be careful out there doing yard work! Cal Grandpadave52, HARO50, LarryS and 3 others
HARO50
I can sympathize with you there, Cal! Took a 3 1/2" Russian Olive thorn in my thigh many years ago, the same way... branch snapped. That wound festered a long time, and PAINFUL! Hoping for a speedy recovery. John Cal
Cal
The swelling is just about gone around my eyes now, forehead still has a small lump. It didn't slow me up any, I was right back out there on Thursday. A few years back I was working it and wearing a pair of HF sandblast gloves for poison ivy. I took an RO thorn right in my palm. An hour later my hand was the size of a baseball glove! At the time I did not know if it was the RO or the glove that caused the reaction. That was another trip to the med quick stop and also why I was quick to take the benedryl the other night. I should spend more time in my shop, and less in the yard!!! John, Happy to hear the recovery is going well...good plan on time in the shop just to clean, organize & regroup a bit before starting too much...take it slow and steady. 1 hour ago, Harry Brink said: I'm still trying to recover from Santa's slip and fall on the ice! Probably the first thing you did was look around to see who might have witnessed the event. Take care out there...and you're right about the bouncing part...VOE 18 minutes ago, clhyer said: A trip to the "emergency" room; two shots, two prescriptions and three hours later I was home... Man Cal, the more I read here, the more dangerous it gets. Hope you're on the road to recovery. Glad it was just the forehead and not an eye. Maybe just enjoy a sweet tea or two for a couple of days might be in order. Cal, Fred W. Hargis Jr, LarryS and 3 others

Well while Steve has been busy enjoying the "balmy Indiana January" weather on the Northeastern side of the state, I've enjoyed the last few days of the stomach flu with very slow recovery on the Western front. Tonight was the first day since Monday AM a meal wasn't toast with maybe a side of applesauce....and that didn't occur until Wed PM. Flu outbreak has been severe enough some schools have closed for a day to do deep disinfection control as well as some hospitals & nursing facilities under quarantine. 'Tis the season... With temps forecast in the upper 50's to low 60's the next couple of days, I might get some garage time just to pick up & organize a bit. Nothing big planned...I'm still not hitting on all cylinders yet. Have to keep close monitor on well pump house (old fashioned root/storm cellar) keeping water pumped due to the excessive rainfall we've experienced the past week+. Have a few recent rust hunts to "catalog" and maybe get some pictures posted. Hopefully will get up to Nursing facility to visit mom on Sunday PM for a bit. Fred W. Popular Post Gerald
Dave that shot was live virus and now it will NOT give you the flu. When you feel better go and get a shot, yes you can get it again. Listen to your Pharmacist......ME. John glad your recovery is going so well I have been in design and prototype of making some things from church pews we are replacing for fund raising at my church. Today I watched the new Pres take the oath and parade and all that stuff. Got into the shop for a couple hours working on Beads of Courage bowls. Tomorrow we have a Woodturners club meeting and I am camera and sound tech. Sunday have security duty at church. Hope to get back full steam into shop Monday. Popular Post Gene Howe
Glad to hear, Moody. Won't be long until you're back in the saddle. Sorry to read of Cal's thorny situation. Must be really allergic. Glad it's much better. And Harry, AKA Santa, you be careful out there. Maybe glue some 60 grit to your soles. Dave, sorry about the yucchies. Hope they're gone soon. Get the shot! They don't even hurt anymore. Were still taking up space at our son and DIL's place in Tucson. No woodwork. Just keeping an eye on the weather. Looks like the roads will be clear Sunday so we can head home.
