HandyDan
I finished the fence for the band saw. This saw has its blade access slot coming out the table where the fence rail would be mounted requiring it to be removed when the blade is replaced. The front of the table is machined square to the miter slots so I figured I would make it to ride on the table front and just clamp it in place since I really won't be going for too much precision. I looked around and came up with a piece of aluminum angle and a piece of square tube and clamped the angle to the table. You can see the 3/4" square bar in the miter slot. I used it to keep the square tube aligned and mixed up some epoxy and clamped it in place. I did this yesterday and let it sit overnight. Went out this afternoon and drilled 1/4" holes and inserted stainless screws and locknuts to insure it remained in place and square. I used this small welding clamp to hold it in place. Gave it a test run on this piece of ash killed by Emerald Ash Borer. Those trails are right under the bark and is all they do. None of the wood is destroyed until the Powder Post beetles and ants move in. The result was two nice turning blanks. The fence worked as planned. I have an idea for a clamping system for it but may just continue to use the welding clamp and see how that goes. Link to comment

Grandpadave52
Nice job Dan. Again using material on hand (I'm impressed having aluminum box & angle on hand!); It will be easy to add taller face extension for re-sawing larger stock too. Thanks for sharing idea. Link to comment

Years ago scrap metal wasn't worth much. I would ask nicely if I saw something interesting and a lot times they would say "heck yeah get it out of here it's been laying there for years". I brought a lot of it home and been storing it and using it. The square tube was from a sign post I had scavenged, there was two of them. I had to cut the piece I wanted to use and clean the gray paint off of it. Scrap today is the same as gold. On trash day there are trucks driving around searching for scrap. Link to comment
