  1. I have been using 4" casters on the Big Green Egg tables we have been making. I found one at Lowe's that worked really good. the rolled really smooth, mounted easy and the priced was okay. But as it always seems, when you find a good product they discontinue it and the replacement caster Lowe's put in cost more. Well that sent me to the Internet looking for casters like I was using and I found a site called Caster City. I found they carried the exact same caster I was using so I made a call to them to see what options were available. I use two that just swivel and two that swivel and lock. I was transfered to a great technical person that was most helpful and spent a good bit of time with me on the options. after finding out how many I was using he set me up an account and a discount level so I can go online and order them when I need them and have them shipped to me and even at a cheaper price than I was paying. So if you are looking for casters for any project you are working on may I suggest you check out Caster City. This is the one that I use.
  2. After building cabinets for thirty years, I started building log furniture. Although I have nearly every tool a woodworker can use, hardly any of them are much use building log furniture. I had to invent a few. I've had a lot of fun building the furniture and it has been very rewarding fiscally. It it much different selling a finished product versus providing a service. I wish I had done it twenty years ago.
  3. Things kinda got busy here at the shop and I had two back to back shows on a Friday so I had to get Ron to post a Friday post for me. Tomorrow will be three months since my knee replacement and I saw the Dr. a week ago and he was pleased with the outcome and my recovery. He pretty much told me to start doing what I wanted to but to remember to listen to my body. So for now I am going strong! My son and wife were with me in the shop over the weekend to help me get out an order of four Big Green Egg tables made of cedar. I got the boards all run for two tables while they were working on assembly and sanding of two tables. Yesterday I finished sanding the last one and got them out of the shop and delivered. When I got home, I finished unloaded some Walnut and Cedar I had picked up Saturday at the saw mill. Last night I got six cutting boards cut out and today I will start jointing, planing, cutting to final and gluing them up. Busy time in the shop and I love it. I see by all the post I have some catching up to do. I am glad to see all of you getting to work in your shop and make some wonderful projects. Well I'll check back later, but the jointer is calling my name. Have fun and work safe.
  4. @Ron Altier, you have made a wonderful gallery of your work! Thank you so much for using the gallery to showcase all your small tables in one location. And, beautiful work sir!
  5. Web site for John Moody showcasing some of the different pieces of woodworking made by John.
  6. Well, all the boring stuff is posted down in the Fre-for-all section.....now...about those tool tables? While I did spend $4 at these tables, the vise was a bit rich for my wallet @$24...moving on to other tables... Have to remember, I had a point and shoot hand held thing that looked like a camera. Not much in this one.. Tub #2....Don't really need these... This is about the same number of hammers I have in the shop.... The one laying on it's side is a No.6, the one by the No.80 is also a No.6 c, the two smoothers? Meh. It's that big boy in the middle That be a KK 8c @ $110...firm. The leather roll of bits? @$40...nah. I did find a few items here...Mainly on the $1 tables..... Stopped at a couple more places....was getting a bit tired out. Still have to unpack two bags of things from today,.....film@ 2300 hrs, ZULU.... BTW, this Fest runs through tomorrow night.....I think I'll stay home..too worn out..
  7. Today we got two Green Egg Tables delivered and cleared some space in the shop. Now to get all of the scrape cedar put away before the boys arrive. This table was built to hold a medium Green Egg Smoker and had to be delivered today for an anniversary gift. Just made it under the line. These ceramic cookers are heavy, and I mean real heavy. So it was only my son and I to put this one into the table. It normally takes four guys to sit the large on into the table. A friend of mine told me if we took the top off it would be easy for two of us. So I took the hinge off the back of the cooker and got the top off. It came off way too easy. We got the egg in the table and then the hinge wouldn't go back on. I thought I was about to buy a green egg and these are expensive. After about an hour I decided it would be better to call the Green Egg Dealer and let them put it back on. So it cost me $40.00 to get the hinge put back on. I would have been better off just getting a couple of guys to help us sit it in the table. But at least it was done my the dealer and if something isn't right they can call the dealer and have them come back out. So now the shop is ready for the next project that will get started tomorrow. No time to slow down. I have help on the way!!>
  8. Was just browsing around this afternoon (can't put a full day in the shop yet) and stumbled upon this neat trick. I am always coming up with wobbly stools, chairs, tables, etc - anything with legs - regardless of how many times I trim them down. This trick solves the problem
