A favorite scrap of wood, reduced to short sticks, glued into a block, and crosscut.

  5. I haven’t had much time for my shop work but I did finish the butterfly’s I used yellowheart & red heart. I used double sided tape to hold the pieces when I cut the designs out and then swapped the designs before glueing. They are about 3” sq. They may be used as frig magnets, on a necklace or as ornaments
  6. I made this one out of yellow heart and a Mexican hardwood that I can’t remember the name of😃 It is 11x12 and is a Christmas gift for my daughter
  7. My wife and I alternate making Christmas ornaments for the grandkids each year. This is my year. At first, I made some "log reindeer" (my father had one in his yard in his later years). They seemed very delicate in ornament scale, so I looked for an alternative. Found something like this on YouTube. Showed it to my wife and she said, "Oh, Plaited hearts, those are very traditional." (She sews and quilts a lot). So off I go. The size of the square is 1.5" x 1.5" and the woods are two of my favorites to match, walnut and hard maple. The YouTube video showed the guy using a cross-cut sled on his bandsaw. I'm wondering why that never occurred to me, I use my crosscut sled on the table saw all the time. So made one of those while the glue on the 'brick' was setting up. I probably have enough for 15 or 20 more that I'll do and go in next year's church Xmas bazaar. I'll post final photos once the finish is applied (I'm trying 3 different ones to see which I like best)
  8. So we have family relatives celebrating their 60’th anniversary in November. I decided to make them a heart with their names and the year 1959 on it. I haven’t finished it yet. Woodcraft had a nice wide piece of wood, so I bought it. It is Guanacaste, I think it is also known as Parota, I don’t like it. So far I have worked with Cherry, Poplar, and Baltic birch. This stuff doesn’t seem to cut cleanly, lots of fuzzies, I’m hoping I like it better after it’s finished. Don’t think I’m gonna buy any more. Guess it’s time to learn how to glue up boards.
  9. Here's my latest project, a heart shaped box with a sliding dovetail in the lid with a heart shaped pin to hold the lid in place. 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 x 3/4. The hardest part is cutting a dovetail in 1 1/2 Boxelder (maple).

    Heart Wall Cross2 - Oak

From the album: CWD Wall Crosses

This is another Heart cross of the same design as the last just a different color.

    Heart Wall Cross1 - Oak

From the album: CWD Wall Crosses

This design was a suggestion form my wife. She supervise every step of it's design so it would look how she had pictured it in her mind. Again this is an enlargement of a jewelry model.
