Been wanting to do tulips for a while but instead of cutting the notch ahead wanted to turn thin and carve them. You could say this is a prototype as I plan to mak some changes such as smaller petals. The dye does not do well in pecan. But it is passable.
I started with some Blood Wood scraps in my hand on the way to toss them and some of it kind of looked like a flower petal. I made it and coated it with epoxy, which wasn't a good idea, won't do that again. I wanted to get a more natural looking surface, didn't come out as I hoped. It looked pretty sad. I redid some of it, still didn't like it. My wife said "Why don't you put a butterfly on it" I did, 2 of them.
It was very cold here today and kept the garage shut up. It stayed around 40 degrees with my small heater. So I decided to finish a project that I had started years ago. A replica of the rare Oak tree flower It is pretty big and I left it alone for years because I didn't know how to finish it. I got an idea and put some leopard wood scrap in the center. I don't know who will want it yet, but I'm sure someone will speak up
