  1. My wife saw some ergonomically designed crochet hooks and decided she would like to try one. So she showed me a picture of one. I have made 6 or 7 of the long thin ones and this looked much easier because it had strength in the bulkier handle part. She said it is much easier on her hands. The dia of the small end for the one she wanted was 5MM. It came out pretty good and she liked it so much she wants 3 more sizes. Sorry about the picture quality, but my iPhone was all I could use at the time
  2. I initially made this one and my wife didn't like it because it was too fat for her hand. She loved the colors but didn't want the large hook that I put on it, because she seldom used that size. It was a job to do, but I did get it down to an acceptable size and inserted a different size. I was making the hooks myself but it was extremely difficult to cut and make it acceptable to her
  3. A couple of years ago, I made my wife a set of 12 ergonomically designed crochet hooks. Then I made a rack for them. She will never use them all but she wanted all of them. Long story short, she misplaced 2 of her favorites. That is where she says "Can you make me two more?" As luck would have it, I had two spare ( less than perfect) handles. I was able to salvage one today, will try the other tomorrow. They were all made of exotic wood scraps.
  4. I finished the set of 12 crochet hooks and the stands for my wife. I missed my deadline of our 46th anniversary by a couple of days, but she didn't care. She loves them and is very happy to have them. I used many different types of wood from exotic to a few domestic hardwoods. The amazing part is that I only used old scraps from other projects that I saved. As you can see, I did a lot of gluing.
  5. I am still working on the same project. That is making a complete set of ergonomic crochet hooks. I am also working on figuring out how to navigate the our newly reconstructed web site. So far, well, may be so not good with the web site. If I was much younger, I would figure it out really quick. But if I was much younger, I couldn't do what I do with wood. ANY WAY................... I am working on completing a 12 piece ergonomical set of hooks. I have 5 left to do. I am hoping like hockey sticks that I can get things figured out enough to post a picture of them. My wife knew about this project, they had to be sized to fit her hand and feel good when she used them and she said that it did. So, Sunday finished the two stands and gave all to her. It was also our 46th anniversary
  6. This is my second ergonomic crochet hook and I have learned a lot. My first attempt came out really good. However, I didn't know exactly where to measure the dia. I measured the shaft at 5mm and that is what I thought she wanted. Wrong. It is the dia at the widest part of the hook. So my first was a 3mm not a 5mm. That worked out fine, because she wanted one of them too. This one has not passed final inspection/try out yet. I figure it will take some more fine tuning. around the hook, It measures in at 4.79mm. With a final coat of poly, it will be close enough. It is 6" long
  7. I forgot to say why I didn't get measurements correct the first time on the hook. My wife and I speak different languages when it comes to terms used in describing things, their dimensions and colors. Her details are sometimes expressed as "About the size of a toothpick or pencil lead." or "cut it from this part to the other thing" I don't have much hair left and I may pull out the rest.
