  1. Well I missed last Friday and have just gotten home from working then picking my wife up at her work and eating supper so I’m just now getting my Friday post done. Thanks for your patience with me. Wednesday I was invited to look at and see if I was interested in purchasing some lumber and turning blanks. A gentleman that used to stop by my booth at First Friday passed away two years ago. His wife is just starting to sell off his lumber and blanks. One of his favorite things was to turn rough bowls and then sell them so people could finish them after they had dried and stabilized. Wow there was a room full of bowls just waiting to be chucked and finished turning. I was like a kid turned loose in a candy store. Now I just got to narrow down my choices and see what I can acquire. I was so thankful to be asked to go through his work, lumber, blanks and a few tools. I’ll let you all know soon what I decide to purchase. Here are a couple of samples of what was there. I can hardly wait to get back over there. Today has been a long needed rain soaking here and more to come over night. Like a lot of places, we have been in a drought situation for a couple of months. Thanks for the rain. We are in cutting board mode at the time. Getting ready for one of our large shows and the last of the year. This is a three day show and they moved it up a couple of weeks earlier so we are going wide open making cutting boards and other items for inventory. We finished this batch on Wednesday. Yesterday I got a batch in the first glue up and today my son got them cut into strips. Before he had to pickup kids at school he was able to get a couple also glued in the final End Grain set. Last night I got most of these sanded and ready for engraving our logo on them. A few of them had some spots that we epoxied. Also got eight 6x6” Cheese Boards ready for engraving. And lastly before I came in last night I got 2 large size boards oiled and they will be ready to go in the storage box. Tomorrow will be finishing gluing and cutting and engraving and oiling boards. Whew I’m already tired. Sunday afternoon will be celebrating one of my granddaughters 14th birthday. Hard to believe she is 14. Been busy this school year, she made cheerleader for 8th grade. What’s on your weekend agenda? As always we really love seeing and hearing about all the projects you are working on. Share your weekend agenda with the rest of us.
  2. Mother’s Day weekend will be a bit different this year for the first time in my life my mom want be there. She passed away last June. However I have a most wonderful wife and she is an awesome mother to our children and grandchildren and we will most certainly celebrate her. Today though I’m in the shop pushing to get inventory ready for our first show of the season. Cutting Boards are on the agenda this weekend and next week. Finished this stack yesterday and have a batch in the clamps now. As as soon as these come out we have another batch ready for glue up. And then the ones coming out will join this one as they pass through the drum sander. So we are in a cutting board run at the moment. What’s on your agenda this weekend? If you are getting any shop time share that and if you can I hope you get to spend time with your mom. Have an awesome weekend and whatever you do have fun and be safe.
  3. Here we are the weekend before tax deadline. Thankfully mine are done and been done. Hope you aren't spending the weekend with taxes and get to spend some time in the shop. Wow we had temps here yesterday in the upper 80's. Seems like we are going from frost a few weeks ago to summer and skipping over spring. I desperately needed to spend some time with John Deere today but it looked like rain when I got home and didn't jump on. That may be a job for tomorrow afternoon. This week I got the laser hooked up and working on the CNC machine and can now put my logo on my cutting boards and other items without having to use the branding iron. I was pretty amazed at how well this worked and it's only a 2.5 watt laser. I have a 40 watt one, but it is in a cabinet and is so limited by what size you can put in and it will only allow an inch thickness. So having this one on the CNC gives me much more room and height. It did equally well on the end grain boards as it did on the edge grain. Now I have a stack that will need to be done this weekend so they will be ready to go. We are full go right now on cutting boards, cheese boards and Bread boards. We also finished a nice set of custom Cornhole Boards today. They will go out tomorrow. Plans are to shoot in another GSSF match tomorrow and I'm doing the scoring so middle of the day will be taken. So what's your plans for this mid-April weekend? We always love to see the projects you are working on and pictures of the progress. Share your weekend agenda with us. Whatever you do this weekend, be safe and have fun!
  4. Jay Skelton sent me to Menards and said to get some of these. They are corian, quartz, acrylic (?) pieces that measure about 11.5 inches square. Polish festivals are coming up. Can be used as a trivet, display, or cutting board for serving things like cheese or dips or whatever.
  5. Well the gifts for friends and relatives are finished- unless Mimi adds someone to the list. A little unusual this year in that just about everyone is getting something different.
  6. Things kinda got busy here at the shop and I had two back to back shows on a Friday so I had to get Ron to post a Friday post for me. Tomorrow will be three months since my knee replacement and I saw the Dr. a week ago and he was pleased with the outcome and my recovery. He pretty much told me to start doing what I wanted to but to remember to listen to my body. So for now I am going strong! My son and wife were with me in the shop over the weekend to help me get out an order of four Big Green Egg tables made of cedar. I got the boards all run for two tables while they were working on assembly and sanding of two tables. Yesterday I finished sanding the last one and got them out of the shop and delivered. When I got home, I finished unloaded some Walnut and Cedar I had picked up Saturday at the saw mill. Last night I got six cutting boards cut out and today I will start jointing, planing, cutting to final and gluing them up. Busy time in the shop and I love it. I see by all the post I have some catching up to do. I am glad to see all of you getting to work in your shop and make some wonderful projects. Well I'll check back later, but the jointer is calling my name. Have fun and work safe.

  8. Working as steady as I can to get ready for the Craft show season. First Friday in March is the kick off here although I am not sure the weather is going to cooperate since it is out doors. Got the first batch of large boards out of the clamps and another batch in the clamps last night. Now it is on to the drum sander to get them flat and ready. And the Beat goes on, and the Beat goes on....
  9. I was able to get a few gifts done this christmas. Christmas ornaments for my grandkids. Mirror for my wife out of spaulted maple. Cutting boards for my mother and daughters out of curly maple and walnut, stirring spatulas out of walnut for my wifes friend. Necklace holders out of cherry "Lake Superior wave" for my other daughters. All in all we had a very enjoyable christmas eve and day. How about everyone else?
  10. Today was a show day for us. Didn't make enough to buy a BMW but did O. K.
  11. I took a class at my Woodcraft store last week for making end grain cutting boards. It turned out I was the only one that signed up for the class so I got the instructor's full attention. Another plus was that since I was the only one there we had lots of time so I ended up with two boards. I'd seen her boards at a craft show before and thought that the way the patterns ran was pretty interesting and wanted to see how she did it. Really it was pretty simple, I should have seen it myself. We had a good time anyway for three nights. I'm wanting to make some more. I think I want to find some hickory, I think that could make some interesting end grain patterns. The biggest problem I see with these boards is that they look too nice to use. She had me sanding them down to 600 grit and they are like glass.
  12. I got a call a few weeks back from the Mayor or our town. He wanted three maple pens and a two of my small cutting boards. So I delivered them to his office last Thursday morning along with three display boxes I got from Woodcraft to put the Maple pens in. I just didn't have time to make the boxes and these looked so good with the pens. He and the Governor or Alabama along with the Secretary of Commence are on a recruiting trip to South Korea and Japan to talk to several businesses about locating in our area. My items were taken to present as gifts to those dignitaries they will be meeting with. Wow. Quite the honor to have my items selected to go along on this trip and very humbling. Many of things could have been selected from the many artist in our area so I humbled and honored to have my items selected. Here is our Mayor with me presenting him the items.
