  1. When I do that then I usually figure out the board is still too narrow. Great job on the dovetails...good progress today. I've given up trying to keep up.
  2. Me too...epitomizes Southern hospitality, culture and story-telling Now where's my sweet-tea and pecan pie I was promised for saying that. Keep it up WBBN...glad you started this post...should be required reading for all newcomers.
  3. FYi...still no MWTCA contact acknowledgment from November 2018 draw. Just wanted you to be aware in case there is some cost to TPW. I'm OK with just letting it slide or passing on to someone else. Thanks anyway.
  4. Boy Larry...if it wasn't for bad luck you'd have no luck at all... Good to hear you're OK...sorry about the well. That has to be very frustrating besides the inconvenience. Hoping 2019 gets better for you SOON.
  5. With that design, that will be a beautiful combination of woods Dan. Looking forward to see the project unfold. Your prototype isn't too shabby either as long as you keep the clamps tight.
  6. Cool idea for the handle jig. Pretty productive 8 hour day accomplished in 3 hours. I think your getting the hang of this woodworking thing.
  7. When I first was laid off, then retired, I was a news hound. I had the TV on at 6 AM...again at NOON, then 11 PM. IDK, maybe all the years of working & traveling when my primary access was via radio or an occasional loop TV news at work. The past 5 years, not so much. I get breaking news on my tablet or phone. I choose to read what interests me and swipe away the rest. I find I'm much happier when I know nothing about the Kardashians, Prince William & Kate, Tesla's mess and so on. The local weather is usually depressing enough without all the negative news. It takes about 15 minutes to read the 8 pages of our daily local paper; if my name is not in the Obits, I know it's a good day ahead. When I can't work in the shop or outside and not hanging out with all of you great people, I'm reading something; usually a book, or magazine; sometimes a tool catalog, scanning CL or watching "my" birds at the feeders. Some days the cat forces me to take a nap against my will so I'm not aggravating her.
  8. Thanks Dan. Interesting what has happened in the last 40, shoot even 20 or 10 years within the tool industry.
  9. Finished getting all the weights placed in my oldest grand-son's Pinewood Derby entry. Tonight is check-in/weigh-in. Has to weigh exactly 5 oz...no more, no less. I nearly screwed up...had my scale set on grams instead of ounces. Took off too much wood...he got it final sanded and painted last night. Picking him up after Scout meeting tonight. Rest of the weekend TBD except for church Sunday AM. Sounds like Sunday evening I will be relocating snow and getting ready for sub-zero temperatures again. Weather guessers say the 110+ year old record cold temperature for Monday is likely to be eclipsed. I hate it when my spring comes uncoiled.
  10. Sorry to hear about your mother John. I can fully empathize what you're going through. Wednesday was 2 years since mom passed. Prayers to you all...we never know what the future holds, but we can rest assured knowing Him who holds the future. God bless and take care.
  11. It's a given. Wouldn't be Sectional time without a snow...However this snow is supposed to come late Saturday night instead of just prior or during the Championship game. Left many a Championship game and wondered if I would get home. Everything I've seen and read, this kid is the real deal. Scored his 1000th point in only his 32nd HS game. Damon Bailey took 37 games. Barring any major injuries, he's on the glide path to be the all-time Indiana scorer. That said, the interviews I've seen and again what I've read, he's quite humble, an all-around team first player and just a good kid period. IIRC correctly, Delta is the only unbeaten team remaining this year. Pulling for ya' Ron & the Blackford Bruins even if they did whip us in the football sectional semi-finals.
  12. Hope everything is OK? Pay attention when they say no heavy lifting.
  13. An (A) for his effort and zeal...maybe a low C for practicality but he's learning about the craft...on his own no less. Got any major sanding for him to do? That will throttle him back a little.
  14. WOW...you're not "screwing" around now. Gonna' need some help to get that out of the basement.
  15. Nothing wrong with doing that...you've more than earned to do so.
  16. Thanks Dan for coming back with the probable solution for your problem. Always great to have the feedback which might help someone else down the path. Pretty inexpensive fix in the scheme of it all. So...whatcha' doing with all the cut-offs? Noisy 'er Inquisitive minds want to know?

  18. Ron, I just saw (again) an 2016 episode on PBS of A Craftsman's Legacy where Master Craftsman and Master Wooden Plane maker John Wilson used that procedure. He said is doesn't take much and presents no problems to the joint, glue or wood. He teaches others how to make planes as well as tools and woodworking. He's best known for his Shaker Oval boxes. I've seen the plane episode 3 or 4 times. He is fascinating to watch. Makes all of his own plane irons too. That said, I've tried it a few times with some difficult joints and it really does work well.
  19. You sir, are plane amazing! Beautiful! Love what you did with your medallion. Thank-you for keeping it in your design. Like the finger recesses in the wedge too. Where did you get the iron?
  20. Look into some of the J-B Weld Products for PVC. Can't help with the digging but I might send the dog to help. She loves to dig...mostly exploratory sites though. https://www.jbweld.com/collections/plastic-composite-pvc https://www.jbweld.com/collections/plastic-composite-pvc/products/plasticweld-epoxy-putty https://www.jbweld.com/collections/plastic-composite-pvc/products/plasticweld-syringe https://www.jbweld.com/collections/plastic-composite-pvc/products/minuteweld
  21. Thanks Hat for the OP. Great tribute. Very few B-17's, B24's & B-25's would have made it out of the U.S. without those women in the factories as well as flying them to shipping ports. Some of those women logged more flight hours than the most experienced combat pilots.
  22. I stumbled upon a thread on another site created by Mark Stansbury. He has put together the most amazing old tool catalog and resource site you can imagine. It is a treasure trove of information and seems to be all downloadable. Take a look. Hundreds of catalogs. I've already posted a link in our Links Directory but until it becomes active you can look HERE Edit add: Directory Link now active https://thepatriotwoodworker.com/links/link/213-international-tool-catalog-library/ A quick example look at the first page....
